Get Bidding In A Charity Auction

    Monday 1st November – Monday 15th November

As from today, the star-studded art auction in aid of UK-based charity, Freedom from Torture, ‘Drawing A Line Under Torture’ is back. The best of the best within the art world are involved, so expect works from renowned artists including Antony Gormley, Paula Rego, Anish Kapoor, Quentin Blake, Julian Opie, and Bridget Riley in an online auction – which is now open and running until the 15th November.

The 12th year that the charity has hosted this prestigious event, it brings together 50 leading and emerging contemporary artists and galleries, and there’s a whole host of paintings, drawings and sculptures available. Artworks start at £500 with certain artworks expected to fetch £45,000 (Antony Gormley’s ‘2nd Blood Field III’, 2020). The goal here is to raise over £150,000 from the auction, while also celebrating the therapeutic powers of art and art therapy, which is a lifeline for the recovery of those who are assisted by Freedom from Torture.

The auction will also include a particularly special oil painting entitled, ‘Winter Sunshine’ by Iqbal, a torture survivor originally from Sri Lanka who took part in the art therapy classes hosted by the charity, “I enjoy art, it gives me peace. When I am confused I go to painting. I feel proud and happy that I can do something to repay all of the help I have had here. I have had good thoughts and ideas from coming here to calm my mind. My life is changed now and because of that I want to help.”

To see a full list of the artists and works, and to bid online from 1 – 15 November go to www.lineundertorture.org.

Sotheby’s London will also be hosting a private view and conducting the live auction on Monday 15th November.
