Restaurant, bar and deli Compton is taking over the old Modern Pantry space in Clerkenwell and it’s going to have you covered for food and drink all day long (and for sunnier days too thanks to a 30-cover terrace). Executive Chef Michael Shaw and Head Chef Sam Monastyrskyj are using produce from small-scale British suppliers to cook up a Mediterranean-inspired menu that’s full of simple, flavourful dishes.
You can expect fresh baked breads and pastries in the morning alongside overnight oats with strawberries, homemade granola with fruit compote, sourdough pancakes with bacon & maple butter, and English muffin with smoked ham hock, grape mustard sauce & fried egg. From lunchtime onward, you can tuck into the likes of courgette salad with smoked almond gazpacho; BBQ Cornish mussels with dashi broth & crispy shallots; hand-rolled pappardelle with asparagus, fresh peas & ricotta; BBQ ‘catch of the day’; grilled figs with honeycomb & fig leaf sorbet; and burnt Basque cheesecake with creme fraiche sorbet, with classic cocktails served on a vintage drinks trolley. And if you want a taste of Compton but don’t have time to stop, the deli behind the restaurant will serve a daily-changing takeaway menu of pastries, bagels, focaccia sarnies, charcuterie and coffee.
