The latest season of the dark, dystopian, and down-right disturbing Black Mirror officially hits our screens tomorrow (April 10). And whilst we’re all filled with anticipation, ready to dive straight back in to the shiver-inducing drama; there’s one London locale that’s feeling particularly excited to watch.
A historic east end boozer was used as the backdrop for one of the new season’s episodes, and will be marking the occasion with a celebratory screening on Saturday (April 12). The Shacklewell Arms features heavily in an episode titled ‘Eulogy‘, which centres around Philip (played by Paul Giamatti) – a lonely man having to commemorate a recently-departed loved one.
Named after the road on which it is perched, the Shacklewell Arms became a permanent fixture of London’s legendary pub scene way back in the 1870s. But underwent a major refurb in 2011 and is now one of the capital’s most beloved live music venues, known to champion underdogs and give a platform for up-and-coming artists. The pub will supposedly have plenty of screen-time during the poignant episode as – unlike other episodes – ‘Eulogy‘ will embrace realism over CGI, and the majority of the episode is said to have been filmed on location at the Shacklewell Arms.
The popular British anthology series offers a futuristic glimpse into the rather disturbing effects that technology has on society. In this particular episode, Philip partners with immersive AI to transform his faded polaroids and distant memories into interactive experiences that he can step right into.
If you fancy popping along, the ‘Eulogy’ watch party will be taking place on April 12 at 7pm at The Shacklewell Arms. Find out more and grab a ticket here.
