Hot off the back of a London pizzeria claiming the top spot in a list of Best Pizzerias in Europe, London is once again proving its culinary prowess with another impressive pizza ranking. Last night, at a ceremony in Naples (where else?), the international pizza guide, 50 Top Pizza, revealed its 2024 ranking of the best pizzas in the world. And one London spot was recognised as the fifth-best pizzeria in the world: Napoli on the Road.
Now, this isn’t the first time Napoli on the Road has been recognised for its delicious pizzas. In 2023, founder and chef Michele Pascarella was awarded the coveted Global Pizza Maker of the Year award. But climbing all the way to the 5th spot in the global ranking is pretty darn impressive. Especially considering they were sitting at number 46 on the list in 2023!
50 Top Pizza said the following about Napoli on the Road:
“Napoli on the Road pizzeria is a must-try in London’s pizza scene. The year 2023 has seen Michele Pascarella and his pizzeria as undisputed protagonists on both the European and global stages. At both locations (Chiswick and Richmond), you can savor the authentic flavors of Neapolitan pizza with a contemporary twist. Featuring long-fermented dough, a pronounced crust, top-quality ingredients, melt-in-your-mouth texture, and very high digestibility, these are just a few of the countless qualities of his pizzas. Among them, we recommend the “Ricordi di infanzia” with Neapolitan ragù and 24-month aged Parmigiano Reggiano fondue, the “Tonno e Cipolle” with Cetara tuna fillets, semi-dry cherry tomatoes, olive powder, and caramelized onions, and the “Celeriac cacio e pepe” with celeriac in three textures and cacio e pepe fondue.”

The full list includes international options that range from Japan to Spain, the Philippines, Germany, Australia, and beyond. But, as expected, Italian spots dominated the list with 41 of the top pizzerias in the world.

“As with all of the rankings under the 50 Top brand, 50 Top Pizza World 2024 is the result of an annual labor carried out by our inspectors who collaborate with the project and who have examined an enormous number of pizzerias throughout the world. Inspections are always done anonymously as per guide policy. Criteria for evaluation include the overall attention given to the customer’s wellbeing, beginning of course with the quality of the final product.”
