I tried a new cleansing balm from Revolution Beauty and couldn’t believe how well it worked. I’m quite devoted to keeping my skin in good condition, but usually deal with breakouts and flare ups after wearing makeup or changing my routine too much.

Wearing a full face of makeup is a rarity for me these days, but when I’ve had on full-coverage foundation, setting powder, mascara, contouring and eyeshadow, it can often feel impossible to get my face clean. I’ve typically only used gel cleansers or exfoliants to remove makeup – but now I think I’ll be making the switch to a cleansing balm.

A cleansing balm is a solid gel that melts away make-up when warmed up and wet. Revolution Beauty recently released the Revolution Pro Miracle Vegan Collagen Cleansing Balm (£15), which is said to be a “makeup-melting hero” that gives the “ultimate cleanse.”

The product is formulated with “supercharged skin-loving ingredients” to cleanse the skin and leave it “smooth, nourished and glowing.” The cleansing balm is made with a form of vegan collagen, skin-plumping peptides and a blend of “calming essential oils.”

After wearing makeup for the entire day, I was keen to get my skin as clean and makeup free as possible. I tried the Revolution Pro Miracle Vegan Collagen Cleansing Balm and was left very impressed.

As instructed, I rubbed a grape-sized amount onto my palms while they were still dry, warming it up to help it soften, before lightly massaging it into my skin in circles. I gradually added water, which allowed the balm to turn into a milk, and kept cleansing until finally removing it with warm water and drying my face.

I expected the balm to have worked somewhat, but I was impressed to find virtually no traces of makeup left on my skin after that one wash. Usually I’d have to double or triple cleanse my skin to get rid of all my makeup – so I was in awe of the results.

The balm completely melted away all traces of makeup, so not only was my skin clean after using it, but it also left my face feeling hydrated, silky smooth and nourished. My skin felt refreshed and revitalised after one use.

Online, a number of shoppers have compared the cleansing balm to the popular Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm, which is priced at £49. On the Revolution Beauty website, all reviews have been five star so far.

One reviewer said: “AMAZING! Half the price of Elemis and better! I woke up so glowy and moisturised I couldn’t believe it! This balm is an amazing alternative and for such a good price. Totally recommend I will be buying again!”

Another, on LookFantastic, wrote: “A gorgeous gentle cleanser which literally melts your makeup away! It doesn’t irritate the eyes either which I love! Amazing dupe for the Elemis!”

The Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm is priced at £49, which means shoppers could save around £34 by opting for the cheaper Revolution Beauty alternative. If you’re looking for other cleansing balms to try, the No7 Cleansing Balm is priced at £10.75 at Boots, while the Super Healthy Skin Hot Oil Double Cleansing Balm is £15.50 at BeautyPie.

For those who don’t mind spending a bit more, the Elemis Pro-Collagen Rose Cleansing Balm is currently £49 online. The Liz Earle Superskin Advanced Nourishing Cleansing Balm costs £31.20 and the ESPA Nourishing Cleansing Balm is £29.40 at LookFantastic.
