Hakkasan Mayfair: Lavish Chinese restaurant review

Last Thursday, my boyfriend and I enjoyed a long-overdue date night at the restaurant by Berkeley Square and from the moment we stepped through the doors, the experience was nothing short of exceptional.

Set in the heart of Mayfair with its signature low-lit, sultry interior and modern Cantonese luxury, Hakkasan buzzed with energy and elegance – the kind of place that instantly elevates an evening.

We were warmly welcomed and quickly seated, and though the restaurant was alive with the hum of conversation and clinking glasses, the service was impeccable.

A special mention must go to our waitress, Julia, who was an absolute standout.

Friendly, intuitive, and deeply knowledgeable about the menu, she struck the perfect balance between attentiveness and discretion, helping to make our night feel truly special.

To start, we opted for the dim sum selection platter, which was a work of art on a plate. Each delicate parcel was a unique bite of texture and flavour – from sweet to savoury, with bursts of umami.

Earthy, aromatic, and beautifully balanced, it’s a must-order.

For mains, the sea bass in honey was a revelation – flaky, tender, and glazed in a sweet-savoury sauce that lingered just the right way.

I often order fish and this was some of the sweetest, softest and most succulent I’ve had in a while.

Paired with egg fried rice — light, fragrant, and subtly seasoned – the entire meal was a masterclass in modern Cantonese cuisine.

Hakkasan Mayfair on a Thursday feels like the best parts of London dining: sophisticated yet unpretentious, indulgent yet welcoming.

Hakkasan has newly launched its Signature Brunch, available every Sunday from 12pm to 6.30pm.

Designed to become a new weekend ritual, the brunch promises a curated journey through Hakkasan’s most iconic dishes, catering to all ages and palates.

Highlights include the renowned crispy duck salad, the elegant steamed dim sum trio, and the bold, rich stir-fried black pepper rib eye beef, which is finished with a splash of Merlot for a luxurious twist.

These sharing-style plates are perfect for relaxed, indulgent Sundays.

To complement the food, guests can choose from a handpicked wine list or indulge in craft cocktails starting from just £8.

Whether you’re in the mood for the sophisticated Vesper Martini, the vibrant Shanghai Cosmo with pink peppercorn and Baijiu, or a tropical Watermelon Daiquiri, there’s something for every mood and moment.

And of course, no celebration is complete without a glass of Moët & Chandon Champagne.

Whether you’re planning a romantic night out or looking to elevate your Sunday plans, Hakkasan Mayfair delivers on all fronts.

The dinner was unforgettable, the service flawless, and the food truly lives up to the restaurant’s iconic status.

With the addition of the Signature Brunch, there’s even more reason to return, and soon.

Taste of Hakkasan is also now available from £29 for two courses, £34 for three, or £42 for three courses including a cocktail.

This set menu offers a curated selection of the restaurant’s most celebrated dishes, showcasing bold yet refined Cantonese flavours.

Highly recommended for those looking to indulge in one of London’s most refined dining experiences.
