Brita has slashed the price of its water filter jugs to under £20 in a flash sale. The cheapest of their offerings is the 3.5 liter jug, which has been reduced to £19.99 in blue on Amazon or both blue and white on Wowcher.
However, remember that you will have to pay £2.99 shipping on Wowcher. It’s still cheaper than Argos (£24), Sainsbury’s (£24), and Amazon beats out Robert Dyas (£20.99, white). With the XL version, you get a filter included.
The smaller 2.4l version retails for £23.99 on Amazon but you get three filters included (compared to £19.99 on Robert Dyas but you only get one filter). Brita promises to filter 150 liters of tap water in four weeks with one cartridge.
A liter of Evian at Tesco costs £1.15, so you’d need to spend £149.50 to reach that amount of water. The non-electric filter uses four stages of carbon and ion exchange beads to create fresh water. For replacement cartridges, Amazon sells four packs for £22.62, which works out to £5.66 a month.
This helps reduce chlorine, limescale and metals such as lead and copper – yep, that’s what you taste in London’s hard water. It also fits nicely in a refrigerator door (dimensions: 27.7L x 15.6W x 28H).
The water filter jug has a rating of 4.7 from 445 reviews on Amazon. One happy shopper said: “A very nice water filter. The water tastes much better than straight from the tap.” Another said: “Better tasting hot drinks and keeps the Tassimo machine in good working order, recommend.”
A third commented: “Really like the large capacity. My old one wasn’t as big.. constantly have to refill it but this jug is huge. Can’t fit it in the fridge but use it to fill coffee machine and kettle so constantly on the go, doesn’t really need to be refrigerated. The only thing I would say is aline the inside so the lid fits properly.”
One less satisfied shopper wrote: “Does the job but very expensive.” Another said: “It would be great if the funnel had a max line so you know if you are overfilling it with water or not. I ended up putting too much water in it and then when I tried to pour out the excess water I could not until I removed the funnel. Also, the instructions are quite difficult to understand so I had to go on YouTube to find out how to prepare and start using the water filter. It would have been nice if the instructions included diagrams.”
Elsewhere, Waterdrop offers a similar 3.5 liter watering can for £21.99 – and their filter lasts 90 days. It has 4.6 out of 5 stars 9,063 ratings.
