The public wants to know more about ex-Navy SEAL Ryan Bates after his appearance on Netflix The toughest forces on earth.
The streaming documentary series takes viewers behind the curtain to the world’s most demanding military uniforms and tells the stories of the men and women who wear those uniforms.
Bates appears as one of three military representatives on the show and describes his experiences as a former US Navy SEAL.

Ryan Bates was a Navy SEAL for 12 years
Before it shows up on Netflix The toughest forces on earthRyan Bates worked as a US Navy SEAL for 12 years.
During his time in the military, Bates was deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan and the Philippines on multiple tours of duty.
He started out as a lifeguard in a military uniform and described his experience The Bad Beat Podcast.
The former Navy SEAL recalled “hard school (work)” had to train as a lifeguard, missing about half of his class because it was too intense:
“It’s a pretty tough school, to be honest. So you have to go down to Pensacola, you have to go through aircrew school first. You have to go through RSS Rescue Swimmer School, and it’s just shitty swimming. I think we started with 50 people, and you end up graduating with 25: with. So it’s a pretty high dropout rate, but I crushed it and ended up with it.”
Bates continued by telling the story of one of his greatest rescues in the water. He described “A place in the middle of the (Persian) Gulf called Kamansky” where smugglers would come from Iraq and sometimes reach international waters:
“I did (had to go rescue people). In the middle of the bay there is a place called Kamansky. There before the Iraq war there were a lot of smugglers who left SA and KA, two rivers of Iraq came out And when they went through the smuggling, they hit two areas, where they cut into international waters, and if they cut there, you bring in a team, whether it’s SEALS, Coast Guard, or FAST Teams, and they take down the smugglers and bring them to a place called Kamansky, which is like a holding pattern of hundreds and hundreds of ships in the middle of the Persian Gulf. “
During one particularly stormy night when the forces operating in Kamansk engaged some of these smugglers “a bunch of (ships sunk)” forcing Bates into action to save “200 People” which remained in the water:
“And one time there was a storm and a bunch drowned. I think there were 200 people in the water one time and we got some rescues during that. It was pretty cool.”
Ryan is an entrepreneur
Ryan Bates has become an entrepreneur after active working hours, starting several companies.
His various ventures include owner of Poseidon Applications Group, The Blind Buck Bar and Globe Bar and Kitchen.
He is now also the owner of Canoe Club USA, an ammunition and clothing store.
Bates founded the Canoe Club in 2021 during an ammunition shortage because — as he described it The Bad Beat Podcast – “(he) could have it” at a time when other people “could not:”
“Canoe Club USA, I got into ammo about two years ago when the ammo shortage happened and a lot of people couldn’t but got them, so I started a business and pretty much crushed it through all of COVID. Now it’s pretty much self-employed and we have a good customer base, if you need ammo, I have plenty of it.”
Ryan was arrested after filming the country’s toughest forces for Netflix
After his appearance The toughest forces on earthRyan Bates was arrested.
The former Navy SEAL was taken into custody by Malaysian authorities in June 2023 after empty ammunition magazines were found in his luggage as he attempted to fly home to Las Vegas from Kuala Lumpur.
Bates claimed the magazines were from his time filming the Netflix series, but police considered the US veteran regardless.
After several days in custody, Bates was finally released on bail on 1 July 2023, but was not allowed to leave the Southeast Asian country until the investigation was completed.
Ryan is married to Dianna Dahlgren
Ryan Bates is married to former model and business owner Dianna Dalhgren.
Dahlgren owns the clothing brand Salty Honey, which specializes in high-quality women’s lifestyle clothing.
The couple also has a two-year-old daughter, Penny, who was born on May 22, 2022.
