It has been more than half a decade The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced, but the release of Bethesda’s latest fantasy RPG doesn’t seem any closer.
Uber success tracking The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – which sold more than 60 million copies in June 2023 – The Elder Scrolls 6 there is a long task ahead.
Announced alongside the newly released star field At Bethesda’s 2018 E3 conference, not much has been heard about the open-world epic since its first teaser trailer.
At the moment The Elder Scrolls 6 seems to be still far from release.
Bethesda Game Works (BGW) – the team responsible The Elder Scrolls and Drop franchise – just released star field in September 2023 ie The Elder Scrolls 6 It probably only became the main focus of the BGW team.
According to Todd Howard, head of Bethesda Game Works, the name was still in the works “pre-production” still in June 2022 (via IGN):
“Yeah, ‘Elder Scrolls 6’ is in pre-production, and you know, we’re going to be doing ‘Fallout 5’ after that, so our slate is pretty full going forward for a while. We’ve got some other projects, check out every now and then.”
Although development seems to have started in earnest since then, it still is “in early development” (per Gamespot August 2023) and had gone into full development shortly after release star field:
“So no, don’t expect to hear anything about ‘The Elder Scrolls VI’ any time soon. Right now, ‘Starfield’ is our focus and will continue to be our priority for a while until we talk about anything else.”
It remains to be seen when exactly fans will see the game, but at least a time slot has been provided.
Court documents in the Microsoft-Activision FTC dispute apparently revealed this The Elder Scrolls 6 won’t be released until at least 2026 (The Verge reports).
About eight years passed between BGW’s last two tentpole releases (Fallout 4 and star field), which would put The Elder Scrolls 6release sometime in 2031 if it follows a similar cycle Star field.
However, the waiting time is probably shorter than this. One of the challenges that the Bethesda Game Works team has to face star field worked on and built the brand new Creation Engine 2.
With the development framework now in place, that eight-year window could shrink by a couple of years, putting the game’s long-awaited release sometime between 2027 and 2030.
After the initial infamous debut The Elder Scrolls 6 ad trailer in 2018, fans have been eagerly awaiting a new look at the game.
There doesn’t seem to be another trailer in sight for the upcoming role-playing game, but players excited by the title are closer than ever to a new glimpse.
After the first presentation (at the same press conference as The Elder Scrolls 6) in 2018, star field didn’t get a second look until two years before its final release.
If The Elder Scrolls 6 is set to release sometime between 2027 and 2030, fans may have to wait until 2025 (at the earliest) to see more of the game.
However, that second glance could be moved up. star field didn’t quite live up to expectations critically, earning a solid but underwhelming 83 on Metacritic.
If Bethesda (and its parent company Microsoft) is looking for a sweep star field under the rug because it didn’t set the world on fire the way the game did Skyrim made in 2011, the second trailer may come as early as 2024.
After games, e.g Fallout 4 and Skyrim came to both PlayStation and Xbox, something questionable has come into the picture The Elder Scrolls 6.
In March 2021, Xbox parent Microsoft completed the $7.5 billion purchase of Zenimax Entertainment (owner of Bethesda and Bethesda Game Works).
This has meant that games and franchises that used to be multi-platform releases have become Xbox and PC exclusives.
Once there was uncertainty all around The Elder Scrolls 6 A PS5 release, it has since been confirmed that the title will not be coming to the Sony-owned platform.
According to Axios Stephen Totilothe platforms of the game are “technically TBD” but Microsoft had told the FTC in September 2022 that “(The Elder Scrolls 6) can only be released for Xbox and PC.”
In the chart sent with Totilo’s report (about the Microsoft FTC dispute) the name was listed alongside Bethesda’s other games and in a column titled “Released for PlayStation?” a large X indicated that the title would not.
This is in line with previous comments from Xbox management. In a 2021 interview with GQ, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer noted, “For me to be on Xbox, I want us to be able to bring the full package of what we have.” we The Elder Scrolls 6 as one of the tiles he sees as an Xbox killer app:
“For me to be on Xbox, I want us to be able to bring the full package that we have. And that would be true when I think about ‘Elder Scrolls 6’.”
As fresh Bethesda games like Arkanen Redfall and Bethesda Game Works star field both skipped the PlayStation, that would make sense The Elder Scrolls 6 to do the same, much to the disappointment of many.
It has not yet been revealed exactly from which part The Elder Scrolls‘ the mythical continent of Tamriel The Elder Scrolls 6 is held.
The last game took players to the snow-capped mountains of Skyrim, and before that it was the lush forests and musky swamps of Cyrodiil.
The short teaser trailer that talked about the game apparently showed off the game’s area, but for the sake of brevity there isn’t much to share.
Initially – thanks to a 2014 internal memo (posted to Reddit) – the game was rumored to take place in Valenwood, the southwestern province of Tamirel, home to dense jungle-like forests and sprawling coastlines.
However, the procedural theory has since changed to a name that takes players to either Hammerfell or High Rock (as seen in The Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall).
It has been almost 30 years The fall of the dagger, where only a small part of the gigantic area of Hammerfell and High Rock was explored at the time. So a modern revisit to the northwest corner of Tamriel might be in order.
Official The Elder Scrolls Twitter account gave further credence to Hammerfell speculation in 2020, tweet, “to transcribe the past and map the future” a picture of the Hammerfell area.
Of course, this couldn’t be related The Elder Scrolls 6but it could also be a subtle nod to where the game is going to be set.
The Elder Scrolls 6 there is currently no release date announced.
