Alfresco Rosé wine from France in the Heart of Covent Garden
La Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels in Seven Dials is celebrating summer drinking with their Rosé Floral Terrace featuring Mapliers Rosé wine perfect for summer drinking alfresco. Situated in the lovely courtyard in Neal’s Yard, Covent Garden the Rosé Floral Terrace is perfect for taking time out, sipping chilled Rosé wine, and enjoying a selection of tasty small plates.
La Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels has a very extensive wine list from around the world, one of the best I have seen. With a comprehensive wine list focussed on quality French wine, there is a great choice of Rosé wine.
We visited on a sunny Friday afternoon; the floral terrace has ample outside seating to sit and relax whilst sipping Rosé wine and watching the world go by. We started with a glass of Mapliers Préférences, Côtes de Provence 2023 a light and refreshing rosé perfect for a summer drink. This Rosé is available by the glass and by the bottle or even a magnum if you are with friends and feel like splashing out. There are other Rosé wines available by the bottle, including wines from Provence as well as Burgundy, Languedoc, and pink wines from Italy and Spain.
Feeling peckish as it was lunchtime it was good to sample some of the small dishes from the food menu. The enticing selection includes nibbles, cheeses, cold meats, and small hot plates.
The crispy baby squid with XO sauce and chives was a must, reminding me of summer lunches by the sea with my family. It came warm and crispy with a generous wedge of lime seasoned to perfection.
Courgettes are at their best in the summer, so we followed on with the courgette tart with mint and sour garlic. This was soft and tasty with big scoops of mint and sour garlic sauces. The puff pastry base was layered with thin slices of heritage courgettes, and topped with grated cheese and pine nuts. The mint sauce was light and refreshing, I adored the sour garlic sauce.
Daily specials are available, so we decided to try the prawn toastie with Spenwood cheese and chilli. I hadn’t thought of cooking prawns with cheese, it worked very well, and the result was delicious.
It was such a lovely spot to relax and drink wine that we decided to stay longer, have another glass of the Mapliers Rosé, and sample one of the other small plates.
We opted to try the Cecina de Leon, cold cured beef slices from Spain which arrived with chunks of tasty bread. It was a perfect dish to end our lunch.
As well as the outside area La Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels has ample inside seating on two levels, it is a cosy place to sit and enjoy fine wine and food in the cooler months.
