Zayn Malik has shocked fans by announcing his first ever solo tour – with the first date just six weeks away. Almost 10 years after he quit One Direction due to performance anxiety, the star is set to play 11 shows in the UK and US.
He announced the tour during a surprise appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night (Tuesday, September 19) where he hinted that dates would be announced very soon. Zayn has released four solo albums to date since splitting from One Direction, with hits including PILLOWTALK and Dusk Till Dawn gaining more than a billion listens on Spotify.
Fans have been shocked by the announcement and praised Zayn for coming to terms with his struggles and being ready to hit the road, with one writing: “Wait the tour is this year? I thought it was going to be like next spring or something. A second added: “It’s been a long time coming.” “I’m so proud of you and how far you’ve come @zaynmalik,” gushed a third.
This came after Zayn shared a black-and-white teaser video for the tour, which showed him walking through and sitting in a meadow. The clip then suddenly fades to color as he exclaims, “I know it took a while but we’re here”.
The Stairway to the Sky tour kicks off in San Francisco on October 23 as one of five shows in the US. Zayn will then cross the Atlantic to embark on six UK shows before the tour wraps up in December.
His London show takes place on Tuesday 26th November at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith. Other UK tour locations include Manchester, Leeds and Wolverhampton.
