London sunset in the skyline

Hot water bottles and SAD lamps at the ready, folks. The capital city is mere moments away from plunging into the dark depths of winter. And when we say dark, we (unfortunately) really do mean it. Yes, I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this weekend marks London’s final post-5pm sunset of the year. Dun, dun, dunnn.

The British Summer Time is officially coming to an end. And whilst we’ll be grateful for the extra hour’s kip this weekend, the clocks going back also means that London won’t see a post-5pm sunset until February next year. According to data from Time and Date, this Saturday (October 25), the sun will bid farewell at 5.46 p.m. The following evening (October 26), however, the sun will only be gracing London with its presence until 4.44pm. Blimey.

It’s not all bad, though. Whilst the prospect of the days getting shorter is an undeniably miserable one, the temperatures aren’t set to plummet just yet. According to BBC Weather, Londoners can expect temperatures to be hovering in the teens over the next couple of weeks. And look, I know it’s not exactly sunbathing weather, but it’s nice to know that we still have a little bit of time before we can expect to see our own breath as we huddle up on the sofa, you know?

On another slightly brighter note, we have plenty to look forward to over the next few months. London will soon under go its annual festive makeover. The city will be aglow with tinsel and twinkly lights, and we’ll soon be celebrating the most wonderful time of the year. So, light your favourite candle, grab your cosiest knitwear, and prepare to step into Christmas darkness.
