A small menu at a restaurant is a double-edged sword – usually it means they know what they’re doing but it comes at the price of choice. Le Relais De l’Entrecôte, a French steakhouse in the Square Mile, takes the small menu to another level – the only menu on offer is their famous set menu.
If you go there, expect this and only this: A salad topped with dressing and walnuts, a side of baguette slices, and two servings of their steak and fries topped with their special secret sauce.
However, there is a selection of puddings for those who want a sweet pick-me-up after the tasty feast. But the main attraction is their world famous steak option which has become an online sensation with diners reportedly queuing outside the restaurant.
That’s partly because of a TikTok review of the place by TikToker Dine with Nadia. Her video has amassed 1.1 million views on the app with nearly 80,000 likes showing the deliciously tender, medium rare patties in what she describes as a “unique mustard sauce” alongside the “super crispy and super addictive” fries.
Nadia summed up her meal. She said: “l’Entrecôte will start you off with their simple but delicious walnut salad and some bread before moving on to the star of the show: the steak and chips served in their secret sauce. The steak was cooked to perfection and was so tender and perfectly matched to the unique mustard sauce.
“And the fries were super crispy and super addictive and the best part is you get two servings of this.”
In the video, Nadia chose the chocolate-drenched profiteroles with slivered almonds on top, which she said were “beautiful”. While these aren’t the only deserts you can get, there are actually plenty of choices when it comes to the sweet stuff.
But the restaurant also offers takeaway and delivery baguettes. You can say aha! Well, it’s more than just the restaurant’s famous set menu, isn’t it? But this is where I have to tell you that it is actually its set menu but condensed into baguette form. The restaurant also has an extensive wine menu to pair with its refined meal.
Judging by the praises that have been sung about this place on TikTok, it’s well worth the visit and it’s right next to Bank station so incredibly easy to get to. Although it is popular, it is wise to make a reservation.
