An above view of a mansion in Hampstead completely covered in green ivy

Another day, another legendary listing to hit London’s property market. And today’s comes in the form of a hefty home in Hampstead that used to belong to rock-and-roll royalty, Sting. Located in one of the most sought-after spots in the whole city; the historic property is over 300 years old. And has not only earned itself Grade II listed status, but also the bragging rights for being one of the oldest surviving houses in the whole of Hampstead. Not too shabby, hey?

Now, with all of these shiny accolades figuratively hung around its neck, and the fact that – well… this is Hampstead we’re talking about; snapping up the property will set you back a rather mighty sum. Almost £12 million, in fact.

Inside the property

Listed with the property-pros over at Savills; the musician’s former mansion (that’s actually comprised of three separate houses that were joined together) is nestled discretely behind some big old gates and a walled garden on one of the capital’s fanciest streets, Frognal.

The gorgeous ivy-covered gaff boasts 4,309 square-feet worth of space, filled with five bedrooms (one of which comes complete with its own dressing room and private study), three reception rooms, two kitchens (just in case one isn’t enough), a stunning garden, and a roof terrace that offers sweeping views across the capital.

Sting is said to have bought the property in 1980, following The Police’s rise to fame. It was also the former home of Russian ballerina, Tamara Karsavina. And there’s a shiny blue plaque out the front in her honour. The house has belonged to its current owners for over three decades now, and this is the first time the picture-perfect pad has hit the property market in over 35 years.

The property is a true historic gem, still boasting many of its distinctive original features. There’s a two-storey gabled porch, segmental arched windows, and elegant period detailing throughout. Serving up charm and character in spades; if you’re looking for a property with a plethora of stories to tell – this may well be the perfect spot for you. Well, if you have a spare £12 million kicking about, that is…

You can take a look at the full property listing here.
