Just south of the river, perched on the 14th floor of The Hoxton Southwark sits this stunning rooftop restaurant serving up Mediterranean flavours with a sea-to-table ethos and a side of glorious city views – you may know it as Seabird, but this winter it dons a new name; Snowbird.
Snowbird is landing at Seabird on November 9 with a wintery bang as the space transforms into a festive twinkly escape, welcoming guests with new retro-nostalgic touches to evoke snowy settings and colder climbs. Walls are adorned with the largest collection of iconic Slim Aarons winter photography prints currently on show in London, guests will meander under a canopy of giant pampas installations hanging from the ceiling, whilst dried alpine flowers and a large, illuminated arch made from a series of twinkly white lights set the scene for guests to take their festivities to new heights.
With the new makeover comes a new menu that boasts an array of sharing dishes perfect for the colder climes. Think baked oysters with chorizo and lemon, smoked haddock omelette, smoked oxtail croquettes with aioli, and crab with apple and sea urchin. Larger sharing dishes include a hot seafood platter with baked oysters, mussels, scallops and tiger prawns; basque stew with hake, mussels, prawns, and saffron potatoes; and baked lobster and crab pumpkin pie topped with caviar that sounds deliciously insane. It’s a cosy, warm and moreish take on Mediterranean flavours that is not to be missed.
The drinks menu has also received a wintery zhuzh with tipples including a Blood Orange and Fig Spritz that’s available as a single serve or, certainly the more festive way, in a 1.5-litre fountain if you dare, ‘Seabird’s Snowball’ which is a twist on the classic Snowball cocktail with the addition of vodka, and the ‘Artic Espresso’ which are mini Espresso Martini’s to round off your meal served in shot glasses made from ice and served in a giant shell – absolutely yes.
Snowbird’s arrival marks Seabird as a go-to rooftop destination all year round. Whilst it’s the perfect spot for sun-soaked lunches, dinners and drinks in the summer, come sweater weather it’s also a dreamy winter retreat that gets its guests in the festive spirit.
