Quentin Tarantino on the red carpet at Cannes Film Festival

Everyone has their favourite Tarantino movie, but have you got a favourite one of his plays? No, he hasn’t put one on yet. But you will soon, as his first-ever play, currently untitled, is set to hit the West End.

Quentin Tarantino appeared as a guest on the Church Of Tarantino podcast, and he confirmed that the play, which will ‘absolutely’ be his next project, is all written. While it may be more than a year until anyone sees it, he also even spoke about moving to the UK with his family to work on the project as it makes the leap from script to stage.

Quentin Tarantino’s first-ever play

The 62-year-old director of films including Pulp Fiction, Resevoir Dogsand Kill Bill also hinted that if his first play was successful, it could be adapted into a movie. He also spoke of there being plans for the play to have a West End launch.

Speaking on the Chruch Of Tarantino podcast, the director said: “Oh, the play is all written. It is absolutely the next thing I’m going to do, it’s absolutely my next project. We’ll start the ball rolling on it in January because I just figure it’s probably going to take up a year and a half to two years of my life.”

“If it’s a success… I get to do the tour version of it, and all that – I’m preparing for it to be a success. If it’s a flop, then I’ll be done very quickly. But even starting from scratch, it’ll probably be a year before it’s in front of an audience.”

Tarantino has previously worked in theatre, after adapting his most recent film, Once Upon A Time In Hollywoodfor the stage. This new play, however, will mark the first time he has done things the other way around – the play was written for the stage, with a view to potentially hitting the screen. Tarantino’s next project in the cinema has long been rumoured to be his last (having previously said he would direct 10 films), so this play could be the first look at his eventual swan song from directing for the big screen.

There is no name for Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming play, nor details of when it could begin performances. Watch this space for further announcements.
