The UK’s fastest growing chicken brand Popeyes has announced expansion plans which will see it double its UK footprint by 2024. The brand, which entered the UK in November 2021, currently has 36 locations, including five drive-thrus, and seven delivery kitchens across the UK.
It is planning over 30 new openings in the next 12 months, taking the total number of restaurants to over 60 by December 2024. New restaurants in Ilford and Hammersmith will open their doors this week, on January 22 and 29 respectively. Upcoming openings will cement the brand’s presence in the UK with locations including:
- Bishop Auckland
- Exeter
- Bury New Rd
- Glasgow Sauchiehall
- Aberdeen Union St
- Nottingham Teal
- Aberdeen
- Swansea
- Birmingham
The Birmingham location, which will be a delivery kitchen, is the first Birmingham location for Popeyes – with more locations to follow as expansion continues.
Following a successful 2023, Popeyes now employs over 2,300 people in the UK and aims to create a further 2,000 new jobs in 2024.
Tom Byng, head of development at Popeyes, said: “We opened our first store in November 2021, to huge hype and acclaim, and customer appetite shows no sign of slowing down. To date, we’ve opened 38 locations up and down the country and converted legions of fried chicken fans to Popeyes, we’re excited to bring even more people their first taste of New Orleans as we double our property in 2024.
“We are especially proud of our geographic spread of expansion, including our first-ever travel restaurant in Waterloo Station, which will energize hungry travelers with great food and a dose of the famous New Orleans spirit”
