A good pair of original Dr Martens boots instantly lift an outfit to add some edgy panache without sacrificing comfort. In my humble opinion, everyone needs a pair of long-lasting lace-ups, but shelling out over £150 on a pair of shoes isn’t something many of us have the freedom to do – even if the quality is epic. Thankfully, Dr Martens’ summer sale has dropped the price of one of its best-selling 1460 boots from £150 to £109, making them a little more accessible and the hit to your bank account a little less painful.
The discount on these 1460 smooth leather lace-up boots is only for the burgundy color (although there are other shades in black, white, navy, cream and cherry at the original price), which is a lovely warm alternative to the classic black shade that many people choose. Marked down by 31%, it’s a perfect opportunity to treat yourself to some boots that shoppers declare are “so comfortable” and “built like no other”.
The boots are created with the classic Dr. Martens Smooth leather, ribbed sides, a heel loop, yellow stitching and a comfortable air-cushioned sole.

The boots, available in sizes three to 12, are hailed as such good quality that fans of the brand have been wearing the same 1460s for 20 years – so you know you’ll wear them out and mark the investment they’ll last. It’s no surprise that the boots have received over 9,000 reviews online and a whopping 4.6 star rating with one reviewer calling them the “best shoes ever made”.
Shoppers are instantly “in love” with the boots and one fashionista liked: “So comfortable when broken in and goes with every outfit. Will definitely be buying another pair in different colors.”
Another crowned them the “most iconic shoes ever” and said: “Document. What can I say.. The most iconic boots ever. I remember asking my parents for a pair when I was younger and I’ve had them ever since when you first get them you sacrifice the skin on your feet to break them in but once you get them they fit like a second skin styles and colors match every style imaginable so don’t just dream buy some and become an icon yourself .”
Despite glowing reviews from the majority of shoppers, some Dr Martens fans have warned that these boots run a bit big and suggested buying a size up. Others were not happy with the house “tough” they would be wearing in the initial stages, with one saying: “Lovely shoe but a little tough they are more comfortable with thicker socks hopefully they feel better soon”.
Elsewhere, Dr Martens has dropped the cost of some of its other boot styles such as the black Pascal Suede versions, which are now £95. Meanwhile, the 1460 Milled Nubuck Leather Lace Up Boots have been reduced from £170 to £89. With summer upon us, if you’re after sandals, these Blaire Tumbled Nubuck Leather Sandals are now £100 down from £110.
If £109 is still a bit much, there are some cheaper options that look just as epic as Dr Martens, like these ASOS Design Lace Up Boots in burgundy. Although made from faux leather – unlike DM’s genuine leather – the boots have been discounted to £20 from £50 and have been hailed by one reviewer as “the most comfortable shoes I’ve bought recently”. Amazon also has a lovely selection of lace-up boots – like this burgundy patent style boot which costs £36.29.
