On Monday (15 June) it will become compulsory to wear a face covering on the London Underground.
And there are a number of other places where it is strongly recommended that you wear a face mask.
Wearing a face mask will protect others around you if you have Covid-19 but are unaware. If we all wear a face mask, we will all help protect each other.
With that in mind, here are some other places where wearing a face shield is either mandatory or appropriate:
1. All other types of public transport
This is mandatory throughout the country from Monday (June 15).

2. In closed public spaces where social distancing is not possible
This is in accordance with the government’s recommendations.
3. Where you come into contact with people you don’t normally meet
It is also on the government’s website.
4. Certain types of stores
Government advice says you should wear a face mask “where you come into contact with people you don’t normally meet.
“This is most relevant for short periods indoors in crowded areas, for example on public transport or in certain shops.”
contacted the government’s department for health and care, to ask what is meant by “certain stores”.
A Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson said: “It would be for shops where social distancing is not possible.
“It would be a judgment call for individuals whether they felt they could socially distance or not.”
5. Supermarkets, if you will
When asked whether customers should wear face masks in stores, many major supermarkets said it was the buyers’ decision.
And finally, a reminder about that Face shields do not replace social distancing .
If you have symptoms of covid-19, you and your household must isolate yourself at home. Wearing a face shield does not change this. You should arrange a test to see if you have the virus.
