Hidden high above the iconic Battersea Power Station sits one of London’s most spectacular and secret green spaces: the Battersea Roof Gardens. With sweeping views over the Grade II* listed landmark and the city skyline, this lush rooftop oasis is usually reserved exclusively for residents. But for a limited time, you could win a chance to step inside and experience this urban paradise for yourself.

What makes Battersea Roof Gardens so special?

Spanning an impressive 29,000 square feet, Battersea Roof Gardens is one of the largest residential rooftop gardens in London. Designed by internationally renowned landscape architect James Corner of Field Operations and brought to life by the award-winning LDA Design, the garden is a masterclass in urban landscaping.

The planting here is nothing short of breathtaking. Picture waves of green and yellow Euphorbia alongside tall, violet-blue spires of Perovskia, creating a vibrant, ever-changing canvas that attracts bees and butterflies. In late spring and early summer, clusters of purple Alliums and sea holly give way to long-flowering mauve Verbena, all set against a backdrop of golden grasses. The result? A living, breathing artwork that shifts with the seasons.

Woven into this botanical wonderland are inviting seating areas, a generous community dining table, and wooden loungers perfect for soaking up the sun. There’s even a grassed area for yoga and small events, making this a true sanctuary above the city.

How can you visit Battersea Roof Gardens?

Normally, access to Battersea Roof Gardens is strictly for residents. But during London Open Gardens Weekenda handful of lucky visitors will get the chance to explore this hidden gem. Here’s how you can be one of them:

Enter the ballot: Visit London Gardens Trust’s ballot page between Monday 12 May (7pm) and Friday 23 May (7pm) to enter the draw.

Ballot winners will be contacted with details of available opening days and times, along with a link to book their exclusive entry slot.

You’ll need a valid London Open Gardens Weekend ticket to attend, so make sure to book yours if you haven’t already.

Note: Access is strictly for ballot winners with a booked time slot and a valid ticket. See the ballot entry page for full terms and conditions.

What else can you do at Battersea Power Station?

While you’re in the area, make the most of the vibrant riverside neighbourhood. Battersea Power Station is now home to over 150 shops, restaurants, bars, cafés, and unique leisure experiences – all just steps from the garden. Whether you fancy a riverside brunch, a spot of shopping, or a stroll along the Thamesthere’s plenty to enjoy.

If you don’t win the ballot, don’t worry – there are other stunning gardens open during the weekend, including Doddington and Rollo Community Roof Garden, Warwick Square, and Eccleston Squareall within walking distance.
