Dishoom Will Launch Its First London ‘Permit Room’ Bar And Café In Notting HillDishoom Will Launch Its First London ‘Permit Room’ Bar And Café In Notting Hill

Say what you want, Dishoom is on every Londoner’s list when it comes to good and affordable Indian food. As someone from Bombay – it hits the spot and takes me straight back to my favourite Irani cafe I frequented with my Dad when I was growing up.

The Indian hotspot infamous for its Chicken Ruby dish and legendary breakfasts will open its first “all day bar-café” in London.

The restaurant already has several locations across London and will now open a new spot called the ‘Permit Room’ this spring in Notting Hill.

They have applied to Kensington & Chelsea council for an alcohol licence and planning permission on Portobello Road close to the Electric cinema – requesting to be from 8am to 11pm.

Aimed to be more casual than the other restaurants, this will be the fourth Permit Room after locations in Brighton, Cambridge and Oxford. Focusing more on cocktails and sharing plates where you can try ‘Mango lassi punch’ and ‘Kiwi colada shimmy’ for drinks and their heavy hitters like the chicken tandoori and chef’s lamb curry for food.

Dishoom describes its sister brand as an ode to ‘Bombay’s permit rooms, beer bars and drinking holes’ – drinking spots that opened bars in the ’70s after prohibition laws were lifted.

This new spot is a stunning four-storey Victorian property that was previously occupied by Portobello Gin Distillery which included a basement distillery and a “Ginstitute.” Giving off Desi pub/bar vibes, there’s no doubt that this new spot will garner the same amount of attention and success as the other restaurants.

I know, I for one will most definitely be making a visit to Notting Hill when the nostalgia hits.

You can book a table at Dishoom’s various restaurants here.
