Looking for great value lunch options or perhaps somewhere to splash out for a special occasion? Spend your money wisely at these highly-rated restaurants in London. From Michelin-starred lunches to the ultimate sandwich in the city, we asked our favourite chefs where they eat out in their spare time. Each chef will dictate where we go the following week to create the ultimate London treasure hunt. Follow along below…

Chefs’ recs: where chefs eat in London

Many chefs we spoke to recommended the Bar Express Lunch at Michelin-starred modern Italian restaurant, Luca, in Clerkenwell. The menu is served from midday until 2pm and comes in at a reasonable (remember it’s got a Michelin star!) £32 for two courses and £38 for starter, main and dessert.

Here we started with the Jerusalem artichoke dish with cauliflower mushrooms and tropea onion, but the star of the show was the braised Hereford beef, smoked potatoes, winter mushrooms and roscoff onions.

Best breakfast

Luca’s chef Rob Chambers recommended his favourite breakfast in the capital at modern European Hide in Mayfair. With a menu featuring the likes of truffle-smothered scrambled eggs, a scorched banana and pecan croissant, blueberry and crème crue French toast and an oozing croque Madame, find out what we thought when we popped in for breakfast.

Best mince pie

Hide restaurant’s executive chef Josh Angus told us where he believes the best mince pie in the capital can be found and it’s at Popham’s bakery in East London.

A three-day labour of love, it’s unlike any mince pie we’ve tried before. With a ginger liqueur-spiked mincemeat, perfect layers of lamination and a clotted cream filling, Popham’s are taking mince pies to whole new levels. Watch the video below to see for yourself.

Best cosy pub

Stick around for next time where we visit Popham founder Ollie Gold’s best cosy pub for food in London.

Come back soon to find out…
