Unless you’ve been living under a gold goblet-shaped rock, you’re probably obsessed with Love Is Blind UK, which has been streaming on Netflix this month. Now that the weddings have taken place (the two episodes dropped on the 21st August!), we’re desperate to know whether Freddie Powell and Catherine Richards are still together?
The iconic reality series has come over to this side of the pond, and like the American version, it follows a group of singles, who go on dates without ever physically seeing the other person, in hopes of getting engaged and finding the one.
One of the couples who found a connection in the pods and got engaged was funeral director Freddie and dental nurse Catherine. While they had a teary proposal and a successful honeymoon, things took a turn when they met each other’s friends and family, and Freddie’s sister voiced her concern over Cat’s intentions.
And now that we’ve seen their wedding didn’t exactly go to plan (spoiler alert), here’s what we know about their current relationship status.
What happened for Freddie and Catherine during Love Is Blind UK?
To catch you up, Freddie and Catherine met in the pods and hit things off straight away, but she also had a connection with Ollie Sutherland, who later ended up proposing to Demi Brown after forming a stronger connection.
But, Catherine was pretty OK with Ollie moving on as she also developed a stronger connection with Freddie, and soon, he got down on one knee in the pods and she said yes.
After the proposal, Catherine said, “Freddie has lived up to my expectations and more. He’s just the best, I feel so lucky,” as he said, “Me and Catherine are 100% we are meant to be.”
While the pair seemingly had a brilliant honeymoon, things took a little bit of a turn when they moved in together in London. Catherine said that during a conversation about sexy lingerie, she felt like Freddie was completely disinterested in her, while they also had a disagreement when he said fellow participant Natasha was good looking during one of the mixers.
Later in the episodes, the pair also had a disagreement over money, after Freddie admitted he wanted a prenup before they got married, and that he wanted his house to go to his sister, if he were to pass away. Catherine said this made her feel like he wasn’t fully committed to their relationship, and like he was suggesting she was with him for the wrong reasons.
At one point, Freddie’s sister also told him, “Take it on board from me as your sister, I just worry something’s not quite right.” Is there trouble in paradise for these two?
What happened on Freddie and Catherine’s wedding day?
On their wedding day, things unfortunately did not go to plan for Freddie and Cat. Despite their very loving and caring vows about each other, Freddie decided to say ‘I do not’ when it came to whether he wanted to make Cat his wife.
After Cat had said ‘I do’, Freddie replied, “I love you Cat. But the timing might not be right for us. This isn’t a goodbye and it’s not a rejection of the love that we share. Part of me wanted to say yes and embark on this journey with you, but as I look into your eyes, I know that I’m faced with a truth that we both have to acknowledge. There’s still mountains left for us to climb and lessons for us to learn before fully embracing a lifelong commitment. And I do love you Cat, but I need to be honest for both of us.”
Their family and friends were truly shocked, with Freddie then walking back down the aisle, leaving Cat sobbing at the altar. She then walked away, telling her dad she needed a moment by herself to collect her thoughts. Cat then took the ring off, and the earrings Freddie had gifted her.
Freddie then told Cat’s parents he still wanted to make it work with her, but that they weren’t ready to get married yet. “Do you trust what we have?” Freddie asked Cat, to which she said, “It’s going to take a lot to bounce back.”
Are Freddie and Catherine from Love Is Blind UK still together now?
At the end of their wedding day, despite telling Cat he didn’t want to marry her, Freddie insisted he loved her and wanted to make it work as a couple. It remains unclear whether Cat wants to continue dating him – unsurprisingly, it’s a lot to take in on one day and she has to process what’s happened.
They are both active on Instagram and follow lots of their fellow contestants, but not one another, and haven’t interacted on social media with each other at all.
That said, Catherine did reply to a fan question about their relationship, and it’s quite telling. A fan asked her, “I love your humour. Do you feel happy with after Love Is Blind?”
Catherine replied, “I’m very happy, I’m happy with everything I complete in life. I feel so grateful and blessed to be a part of @loveisblindnetflix it’s been the biggest life changing and learning experience ever!”
Hmm. Do we think these two are making it work as a couple without being married or what? Guess we’ll have to wait for the reunion to find out.
