The Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) has published its Annual Business Plan for the coming year.

The plan sets out how the Constabulary will continue to deliver upon its core mission, providing the vital protection of civil nuclear sites and material, while also providing armed policing services to protect other non-nuclear sites and national infrastructure.

The Annual Business Plan 2026/2027 is aligned to the Civil Nuclear Police Authority’s Strategic Plan, which enters its final year of the current three-year planning cycle.

It comes at a time of national police reform, uncertainty in world events and an evolving threat picture.

Chief Constable Simon Chesterman, said: “We are unique police force, delivering upon an absolutely vital mission.

“Our ambition is to be recognised nationally and internationally as the leading organisation for armed protective security within the critical national infrastructure of the United Kingdom.

“In addition to our role at nuclear sites, we have continued to build upon our expansion last year, with our teams at four non-nuclear facilities now at full operating capability.

“Government has made a clear commitment to the importance of nuclear energy with significant investment and innovation. In response, we continue to demonstrate our ability and flexibility, ready to take on new opportunities wherever our services are required. Our efficiency programme will also drive us to deliver best value for our customers.

“This Annual Business Plan underpins our strategy and demonstrates our desire to do more in support of national security requirements. Its goals and priorities focus the efforts of every police officer and staff member on maintaining the core mission, delivering armed protective security for the nuclear industry and beyond.

“And, as our people are our greatest asset, the plan places equal importance on an inclusive culture, with a commitment to the highest standards of integrity and standards of behaviour.”

The Civil Nuclear Constabulary Annual Business Plan is published today (7 April) and can be downloaded from the CNC website.
