A rosemary hair oil designed to promote hair growth is catching on with beauty lovers. Nature Spell Rosemary Oil costs £7.98 on Amazon, and is also available for £7.99 from Superdrug and £9.49 from Debenhams.
The rosemary oil is supposed to stimulate the hair follicles, make the hair grow longer and stronger while slowing premature hair loss and graying hair. It also thickens hair and helps soothe itchy scalps.
When used on the skin, the oil helps to tone and hydrate. It has antibacterial properties and cleanses the skin while reducing the appearance of under-eye circles and puffiness.
If your hair needs serious TLC, Amazon shoppers also recommend the TIGI Bedhead Shampoo and Conditioner Set. Billed as ‘hair rehab’, the TIGI set is designed to repair damage, increase strength and smooth frizzy hair – you can read the rave reviews here.
Rosemary oil has a rating of 4.5 stars from 8,685 reviews. One person said “I bought this mainly for hair growth, I haven’t been using it for very long but my hair definitely feels a bit thicker and longer since I started using it.

Does rosemary work against hair loss?
Rosemary – a shrub from the Mediterranean – is probably best known as a seasoning for roast lamb. But it has been used for centuries in remedies thanks to its soothing properties.
The National Library of Medicine in the US has published a study that says it can reduce inflammation, boost memory and help with anxiety. So there is already a basis for it working in a medical sense.
Additionally, a large study indicates that rosemary oil not only works for hair growth, it works just as well as trusted formulas already on the market. The 2015 study focused on findings from 2013 and 2010, based on people with androgenic alopecia – male or female pattern baldness. They found that rosemary hair growth oil was just as effective at encouraging hair growth as minoxidil.
Minoxidil may sound like a random chemical name, but its most famous application is as an ingredient in Regaine. The study also found that rosemary oil led to fewer problems, such as itchy scalp, at three months and six months. Speaking to the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Khetarpal said of the study, “The bottom line is, yes, it seems to work.”
