London’s weather is pretty gloomy at the moment, with steady snow forecast for the next few days. Nothing unusual at this time of year, but it can prove dangerous.

Snow and low temperatures mean icy roads and sidewalks, which can be difficult to walk on if you don’t have the proper footwear. An easy way to make any pair suitable is ice grippers.

Amazon offers a wide range, including SHEEFLY Crampons. They cost £15.99 and have tungsten steel studs on each pad.

The crampons can also be turned around so that they face upwards when entering. They have a 4.9 rating from 30 reviews.

One happy shopper wrote: “The crampons that attach well work well for what they are, they stopped a lot of the slippery slippage underfoot. They are easy to attach and detach, and even just carry around in your pocket or car. ”

Another added: “The star ladders are very easy to put on, they are also so easy to turn the boot around so you can walk inside or in uncovered areas. These are so much better than the whole shoe.”

There has been minimal criticism of the product, with the lowest rating being four stars, but some customers complained about the band size: “Although a fairly wide range of foot sizes are specified, they will not fit well or be effective if placed over large or bulky shoes or boots. The strap would stretch too much or strangle the shoes.”

Alternatively, there are Yaktrax Pro Ice Grips from Millets. The lightweight design is intended to maximize grip, with a Velcro strap to keep them in place and a heel tab for easy removal.

There are also Quechua Adult Snow Crampons, available for £11.99 from Decathlon. They are made of non-slip metal and are flexible and elastic for easy on and off.

They have a rating of 4.6 out of 90 reviews. “Easy to put on and take off, they’re lightweight and I haven’t slipped since I got them,” said one buyer.
