London isn’t short of places to devour delectable baked goods, that’s for sure. But if you’re looking for the best of best; you’ve come to the right place. This week, the official 2024 Bakers’ Dozen has been announced – and if you have absolutely no idea what that means; allow me to explain…
Over 100 baking specialists from across the country were carefully selected to have their say on the very best artisan bakeries in the UK. Handpicked by British Baker (the leading source of information for the baking industry), these experts included the likes of suppliers, consultants, lecturers, and – of course – artisan bakers. Based on their votes, the 13 very best artisan bakeries were selected as this years’ Bakers’ Dozen. And we’re ever so pleased (and only a little bit smug) to announce that three London bakeries made the cut, one of which was named the third best in the whole country. Not bad, hey?
The Dusty Knuckle
Boasting two extremely popular London locations (Haringey and Dalston), The Dusty Knuckle serves a mouth-watering selection of handcrafted baked goods. We’re talking sourdough and focaccia loaves, ridiculously delicious sandwiches, pastries, pizza, and so much more.
As a purpose-driven business and a social enterprise; The Dusty Knuckle strives to do good things, not only for our tummies but for the local community too. They’re passionate about helping at-risk youths to take positive steps forward by giving them on-the-job training and mentorship. Their Dalston site is also home to a bakery school in which attendees can learn how to make their very own delicious delights.
The Dusty Knuckle wasn’t the only London bakery to make the Bakers’ Dozen list, though. Coming in at 7th place was TOAD; an independent Camberwell-based spot that offers some of the city’s best-looking (and best-tasting) sweet treats.
TikTok favourite, Arôme, also made the list. Baking fresh, seasonal products in-house everyday, Arôme offers an impressive spread of sweet and savoury pastries that perfectly marry Eastern and Western flavours. Yum.
