London’s commuters may stumble upon some pretty familiar faces performing at Liverpool Street Station today, thanks to a 24-hour piano marathon that is taking place. Stars ranging from Sam Ryder to Gemma Collins, X Factor winner Myles Stephenson, and more will be performing as part of the 24-hr pianothon.
The marathon piano performance has taken over Liverpool Street Station to celebrate the return of The Piano on Channel 4. Ahead of series three launching this Sunday at 9pm, more than 50 acts will ensure that the piano will continue to play from 6 am this morning, all the way through to 6am tomorrow morning (April 12).
The piano marathon is the first UK event of its type. And the location is an obvious choice, given the station is famed for its iconic free-to-play public pianos.
Who is part of the 24-hour piano marathon?
Over 50 acts will tickle the ivories or lend vocal support to the performance as part of the hours-long endeavour. These include
- Sam Ryder
- Gemma Collins
- Keynotes Choir
- Myles Stephenson
- Brad clock (winner of The Piano series two)
- ‘Harrison Piano‘ (the 15-year-old pianist from The Piano’s first series)
- and more
The music played as part of the PIANOTHON will range from pop hits to indie, R&B, dance and classical. Music lovers can stream the event in full here.
Said Gemma Collins:
“I loved having the chance to be part of the PIANOTHON with Channel 4 and doing something a bit different. It was a chance see the GC in a new light. I was a bit disappointed I couldn’t ship my leopard-print piano into Liverpool Street Station, though! Music is about connecting with people and sharing moments of joy, and what is more joyful than surprising people in a train station with loads of brilliant music? Maybe this is the start of something exciting for me – watch this space!”
The 24-HR PIANOTHON is running from 6am April 11 to 6am April 12. Catch it live and in person at London Liverpool Street Station, Bishopsgate, EC2M 7PY.
