The cast was led by the Italian actress Caterina Ferioli Tearsmith Alongside Simone Baldasseron.
Tearsmith follows the story of two teenagers, Nica Dover and Rigel Wilde. The couple are orphans who were adopted into the same family. But things get complicated when they develop feelings for each other.
Nica is played by Caterina Ferioli in the film, which is exclusive to Netflix and is based on the novel of the same name by author Erin Doom.

Caterina Ferioli started modeling at the age of 15
20-year-old Ferioli (born December 21, 2003) began her career as a model when she was just 15. She spoke to Fashion Model Directory about the process through which her agency initially sought her out.
Ferioli noted that he initially did not know the purpose of the casting call he attended:
“I was contacted by my mother’s agency at the casting for Women Marie Claire, which was held at the OVS store in Bologna. That day, I didn’t really know what the purpose of casting was, but I decided to run to the store, and I found out about female leads when I got an invitation to a two-day shoot, actually I didn’t know how castings really work or anything like that. I had done something before this opportunity, but not even seriously and for my mom’s friends who need a model for their campaigns. I did not expect to receive an inquiry and call the agency, about six months later I was part of the women.
When asked how she would describe herself as a model, the 5’9 Ferioli said she always tries “bring some joy to the series:”
“I am determined about my goals, funny and focused. I always try to bring a little joy to the stage, and I think it’s so important to empathize with your photographer, artistic director, makeup artist and the whole crew.”
He also shared the details of his first modeling job, which was for orthopedic shoes. Photos taken of him during filming ended up inside “Lots of leaves:”
“I hadn’t even signed up to a modeling agency and I had shoots for orthopedic shoes, my photos of them were in many magazines, but I was 14-15 years old. After I logged into my mom’s office, I had my first e-commerce experience with such wonderful people who call me when they need a model, and it’s amazing.

One of Caterina Ferioli’s biggest idols is Kaia Gerber, the very successful American model and daughter of the icon Cindy Crawford.
As for what Bologna, Italy admires most about Gerber, she commented to Fashion Model Directory that she “sees his passion and dedication.”
“I love and admire every model because I think this job requires a lot of passion, but in particular I have always admired Kaia Gerber. He is so nice, he is interested in everything and when he works I can see his passion and dedication.
Ferioli admitted that he “always wanted to be a model” but I had the impression before that there would be such a goal “impossible to achieve:”
“I always wanted to be a model but I thought it was impossible and very difficult to achieve because I looked through many magazines and looked up at all the models I saw as celebrities and I thought it was impossible to achieve this goal. As time went on, I started to explore the world of modeling, and I became very interested, and I became obsessed. I’m also interested in psychology and the story or marketing behind fashion and I want to continue studying in these fields for sure, if possible, in Milan of course.”
Caterina admits that she argued with her Tearsmith partner
In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Ferioli admitted that he was unfamiliar with Tearsmith’s novel when he auditioned for the film adaptation, but “ate” Book after he won the part:
“When I auditioned, I didn’t know anything about the phenomenon behind the book, I went a little blind. But it went well! But my mother knew it, she was convinced I would like it and she suggested I read it. Then I actually gobbled it up when I got the part with the script.”
In the film’s lead character, Simon Baldasseron’s Rigel, Ferioli questions whether she would be interested in a man like him in real life:
“Nica joins him above all because they have a shared history, they grew up together in an orphanage. In fact, in the beginning it was like they were brothers. In real life, I don’t know if I would be attracted to a guy like Rigel. Of course I would if I felt it was worth it. But it is not always easy to help those who do not want to be saved.
He also revealed that there were “moments of anger” between the two actors, but in the end they “found (their) balance:”
“We spent a lot of time with him, we share many scenes, we were on set for 15 hours a day and while working on the characters we found our balance. Sometimes there were also moments of anger, we argued, but we also loved each other very much. In short, it was intense.”
Caterina will next star in Bel Canto
As for upcoming projects, Catarina Ferioli has her next role in an Italian drama film Nice song. The actor stars in the film as a teenager whose bond with his siblings is tested when they both aspire to become opera singers.
Nice song it was developed by an Italian broadcasting company and also stars Adriana Savarese. Carmine Elia is in the director’s chair. The film will also likely be streamed on Netflix sometime after its release.
