Adding a pop of colour to the London summer, Roof East is opening its doors to welcome in the summer next month (yes, even though that’s technically spring, we view the opening of this sun-kissed London haven to be the first sign of the warm season). Note down April 18 in your diaries, because that’s the day when the fun begins, and spaces at Roof East are available to book now!
Feeding London’s enduring love affair with rooftop pop-ups, Roof East has woven the magic of turning an east London multi-storey car park into a free-spirited playground. And this year we’ve got the added excitement of celebrating 10 whole years of Roof East in London.
Yes, this summer’s season is sure to be the very best yet as the colourful institution celebrates its 10th year. With its vibrant decor, fun activities, and wave of street food vendors you’ll be lapping up the fun well into the long summer nights
We should probably also mention that entry to this giant rainbow of a playground is FREEwith experiences priced individually. On May 19, Roof East will also ‘party like its 2014’ by slashing food and drink to 2014 prices (as well as games to half price!) giving us an experience of the cost of the venue when it’s opened. The prices may have gone up through inflation, but the fun is all there to be had all through the season at this playground.
The string of free games (giant Jenga, anyone?) is also making a grand return for 2024, but more on that to come…
Sitting alongside Peckham Levels in the “multi-storey car parks turned event space” category, Roof East is a firm favourite amongst the Secret London team, and for good reason.
That love affair is only likely to grow during the 2024 season. In 2022, Roof East expanded to a whopping 30,000 square feet of sun-soaked shenanigans, with a fresh and vibrant lick of paint to make those colours pop out even more. And there’s plenty more planned for us this 2024 season at Roof East…
What can we expect to see at Roof East 2024?
There’s plenty on the roster at London’s largest outdoor playground; old favourites Sluggers are back with their batting cages, whilst the ever-popular Birdies crazy golf and Glitter Bowls are returning to the roster of games.
Beat The Bar—the endurance test that challenges you to stay hanging to the Roof East bar for as long as you can—is also back, and last year’s exciting new game arrival is also making its return for 2024. Arrows invites you to grab a bow and arrow and aim for the bullseye, with the promise that the loser buys the next round…
Roof East 2024 also marks the return of the ever-popular Rooftop Film Club, which is the perfect way to add a handful of stars to movie night as you soak in the east London skyline alongside your chosen flick — we hear Pulp Fiction and 10 Things I Hate About You are already on the agenda for this summer, as well as Wimbledon final screenings! You can expect a full programme of events to complement the games, with plenty a pub quiz, Jenga championships, The Big Fat Quiz Company quiz nights, dance classes by the Curve Catwalkand the promise of much more!
What food is there at Roof East?
Roof East will also welcome back some lovely vendors this summer, with Cheeky Burger (former winners of the ‘best burger’ at the British Street Food awards) slinging the meat and plant-based patties, Piddji sizzling up Turkish flatbreads to keep the hunger at bay. Plus, they’ll be welcoming Chick’n’Sourswho have been coined the ‘god of fried chicken’, where you can grab ‘The General’ with crispy chicken, house-made Kewpie Mayo, American Cheese, and pink pickles before indulging in the ‘Choc Miso Madness’ for dessert.
As it’s summer we’re talking about, you’ll obviously be wanting to try Roof East’s take on an summer Spritz (the Malfy Rosa Spritz), which is made with gin, Cointreau and Prosecco, then finished off with Grapefruit and Apricot soda.
Rum is also a popular choice, with their Big Hitter’s (with Havana 7, Havana 3, Havana Cuban Spiced, Grapefruit, Pineapple, Almond and Pomegranate) guaranteed to compliment that dose of sunshine. Get a round of your tipple of choice in (there’s also wine, beer, bubbles and more cocktails), toast those glorious sunsets, and life will be just peachy!
Snag a seat in the venue’s colourful cabanas, scoff on a hearty mouthful of street food, and mentally prepare yourself to do battle across the archery lanes and batting cages – honestly, what could be better on a summer’s night?
Roof East also partnered with suicide prevention charity Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) this year, and guests will be able to make optional donations to their work when purchasing their new Cherry Woo Woo cocktail (50p from each cocktail, 20p from each mocktail). CALM offer life-saving support through their campaigns every year, and fight to change the fact that 125 people in the UK take their lives every week. Donating to this vital cause at Roof East is just one more reason to pay a visit this summer.
