London has been home to some icons over the years, and not many define that word quite to the extent that Freddie Mercury does. The late Queen frontman’s voice, style, and level of performance were all cranked up to the highest level, so you can bet your last dime that his home in London matched just that (though that bit of gambling might risk putting you out the running for what we’re about to tell you about).
His former mansion in London has just gone on the market. Rather strangely, though, you won’t be able to see a listing anywhere like you normally would on your house-hinting missions. That’s because Knight Frank hasn’t created an online ad for the house as a means to deter those who don’t have the funds (so over 99 per cent of us) from enquiring.
If you do have the necessary 30 million quid lying around and are feeling Under Pressure to splash it all at once, you could do a lot worse than becoming the owner of Freddie Mercury’s former Kensington abode. Anyone who has the funds is asked to contact Knight Frank to make an enquiry.
Last year, almost £40 million was raised during an auction of around 1,400 items belonging to the legendary singer, so it’s clear that the want to gain a glimpse into the life of Freddie Mercury through his possessions is there. Time will tell whether someone will wish to step through the doors to his old home and close the door behind them.
Eagle-eyed fans looking to buy the house will notice one thing not there. The green door in the wall surrounding the house, which fans graffitied in tribute to the singer after he passed away in 1991, was sold in the auction last year.
However, that doesn’t exactly make the place worthless (which you can see from the price), and anyone making a bid should be in for a thing of beauty. It was purchased by Mercury in 1980 (reportedly for £500k!), and is nestled in front of a beautiful Japanese gardenwhich will just be coming into its cherry blossom-soaked bloom at this time of the year. Inside, there are eight bedrooms and a stunning art deco dressing room. Safe to say that I want it all! And I want it now!
