Hocus Pocus (1993)
Hocus Pocus is a fantasy comedy that follows three witches who are accidentally resurrected in the town of Salem by a young boy. The film is available to stream on Disney+. It can also be rented for £9.99 from Google Play, Amazon and Apple TV. Hocus Pocus 2 is also available from Disney+.
Scream (1996-2023)
The Scream series consists of six films. The wildly popular slasher films follow the mysterious killer Ghostface as different people encounter the killer over the years. The Scream movies are available on Amazon, with some available on Paramount+, where you can get a free trial with Amazon Prime.
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
In Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, the skeleton Jack Skellington grows tired of his life in Halloweentown. He discovers Christmas, and his obsession with “improving” the holiday soon leads to chaos. You can watch the film on Disney+ or rent it for £3.49 on YouTube, Google Play and Apple TV.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
A beloved cult classic, The Rocky Horror Picture Show is about a young couple whose car breaks down in the rain near a castle. When they go in for help, they encounter strangers in costumes celebrating a convention. They eventually meet Dr. Frank N. Furter, a mad alien scientist who creates a living muscle man. Halloweentown (1998)
The Shining (1980)
Stephen King’s The Shining was brought to the big screen by Stanley Kubrick. It follows Jack and his family as they move into an isolated hotel for the winter, as sinister forces soon begin to take hold. The Shining is available on BBC iPlayer. You can also rent it for £3.09 on Amazon Prime.
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
Cult classic The Blair Witch Project was one of the first films to be found at the premiere, and quickly became a fan favorite. It follows three filmmakers who explore the legend of the Blair Witch. It is available for rent on Amazon.
Coraline (2009)
The stop-motion movie Coraline may look cute, but it’s anything but. Based on a Book by Neil Gaiman, it follows a young girl who is frustrated with her parents when she discovers an alternate world with some terrifying details. You can rent it for £3.49 on Amazon and for £5.49 from Apple TV.
The Exorcist (1973-2023)
The Exorcist is perhaps one of the most famous horror series. There are currently six films in the franchise, with a seventh planned for 2025. The series revolves around a demon that possesses its victims with dire consequences. The first film is available for free on BBC iPlayer. The second can be rented for £3.09 from Amazon, while the third is available with an Amazon Prime subscription. The rest of the films are unfortunately not available in the UK.
