Last Sunday, Margrethe of Denmark abdicated her throne after 52 years, after unexpectedly announcing the news during her New Year’s speech. Her son, Crown Prince Frederik, succeeded her, but the nation will not soon forget its former head of state. The Danish channel TV2 is working on a fiction series about Margrethe’s life, analogous to the Netflix series The crown about Elizabeth II. Just like the British Queen, the series follows Margrethe’s life since her youth. According to the producer, it is “an important story that concerns all Danes, told from the royal family with Margrethe at the center.” Filming is expected to start in 2025.
