Hair loss and hair thinning issues are two cosmetic problems that many different types of people may experience in their lifetime.
One form of treatment for these kinds of issues is a hair transplant. If you have considered this form of cosmetic surgery, then Cosmedica Clinic could be a place to consider having the surgery.
Based in Istanbul in Turkey, Cosmedica is run by German, Turkish and English-speaking hair transplant surgeon Dr Levent Acar. With over 16 years of experience in the hair transplantation field and hundreds of hair transplant operations under his belt, Dr Acar specialises in FUE and Sapphire DHI hair transplants.
Since founding Cosmedica Clinic in 2011, Dr Acar has expanded his knowledge even further with different training programmes outside of his degree to aim to help develop the hair transplantation field.
Hair transplants are a form of invasive cosmetic surgery that should be given careful consideration. You should always seek independent medical advice before going ahead and the procedure is not to be performed on anyone under 18 years old. It is not a solution to personal problems and is not risk-free. Results may carry depending on the age and health of the person.
Why are hair transplants in Turkey becoming more popular?
One of the reasons that hair transplants in Turkey are becoming increasingly popular at clinics such as Cosmedica, is because of the cost of the operation. In the UK, the cost of a hair transplant can range from £1,000 to £30,000. At Cosmedica, the price of a hair transplant ranges between £2,000 and £5,000.
Although the cost of any hair transplant procedure can vary depending on various factors, such as the number of grafts needed, the prices of transplant surgery in Turkey can be more affordable. As there is a large number of hair transplant clinics in places like Istanbul offering similar treatments, the prices can be more competitive.
Keeping the patient at the heart of everything done, Cosmedica Clinic offers hair transplant packages that include:
- Initial consultation and hairline design by Dr Acar
- Personal translator
- Transfers to and from the airport, hotel and clinic
- Accommodation in a nearby hotel
- Oxygen therapy treatment
- Following day result check
- HD microscope for single and multiple graft preparation
What methods can be used for hair transplants?
The two main hair transplant methods that are used at Cosmedica Clinic are FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and DHI (Direct Hair Implantation). Beard transplants, eyebrow transplants and hair transplants for women are also on offer.
Before you make any decisions about getting a hair transplant in Turkey, the first step at Cosmedica is getting an initial consultation with Dr Acar. During this, the hair transplant surgeon will examine your scalp and determine which technique is the correct one for you.
The initial consultation also involves a free hairline design and is a good time to ask any questions you may have about the surgery, so that you understand what is involved and how much you will be expected to pay, before travelling to Turkey.
What does an FUE hair transplant involve?
It is important to understand that this hair transplant method requires you to shave your head before the operation so that the surgeon can have a better view of the scalp.
An FUE hair transplant uses a hollow needle (known as a punch) to remove the grafts from the donor (where the hair grows thickest). The hair follicles are then prepared outside of the scalp, before being implanted into the recipient (balding) area of the scalp. With a diameter of approximately 0.9mm, the punch can be used to remove the hair grafts from the donor area.
Once the surgery is done and the newly transplanted hair begins to grow, it may begin to fall out after about a month. Known as shock loss, this is normal and occurs in most patients.
Two to three months after the operation, the hair should begin to grow again and the full results should be seen between 12 and 18 months after the transplantation has taken place.
How is a DHI transplant different?
Much like the name suggests, a Direct Hair Implantation transplant involves individual hair follicles being removed from the donor area and implanted directly into the scalp, without the grafts being prepared first.
In order to do this hair transplant technique, a Choi implanter pen is used. This is a special tool that can allow the surgeon to aim for a more natural-looking hairline.
Once the transplantation is done and the shock loss occurs, the full results should be able to be seen between 12 and 18 months after the operation.
