Liverpool Street station view

Just as it did last year, Liverpool Street station is set to close for eight days over the busy Christmas period in London. As per IanVisits, this will happen once again to carry out engineering works on the railway lines around the station, specifically to bolster the Bishopsgate tunnel on the way into Liverpool Street.

As a result, it will mean that there will be some disruption to travel plans in the festive period, so you’ll need to check ahead before making any planned journey that would usually arrive at Liverpool Street station.

When will Liverpool Street station be closed this year?

If you’re worried about getting home before Christmas Day, all should be okay (barring any unplanned delays). The eight days of closures at Liverpool Street station begin on December 25 and run up to and including January 1, 2026. This does, of course, mean that anyone travelling into London for New Year’s Eve celebrations will need to find an alternative means of getting to the centre of the city.

Which trains will be impacted by the Christmas closures at Liverpool Street?

Greater Anglia Trains – these services (including the Stansted Express) will run
London Overground Weaver line – services will run between Chingford/Enfield Town/Cheshunt to London Fields through this eight day period.
c2c – running from London Fenchurch Street via West Ham.

Will the London Underground services still run from Liverpool Street?

Yes, you’ll still be able to use London Underground services to Liverpool Street, and according to The StandardElizabeth line services are also due to run through the period (with any usual reduced service on certain days of the festive season still applying).

If you’re still stuck and haven’t got long to get home, you can usually rely on your old pal Citymapper to get you from A to B with updates to transport closures.

Liverpool Street will be closed for eight days between December 25, 2025 and January 1, 2026. Services are due to run up until Christmas Eve, but check before travelling during busy periods.
