Over in the south west of London, tucked away in Twickenham, curious London explorers will find the Strawberry Hill House and Gardens. This stunning hidden spot is the gothic castle of your dreams, and it’s about to become all the more picturesque thanks to a floral makeover. The site’s seventh annual Flower Festival will soon transform the unique site into a fairy-themed floral destination.

Over 50 floral artists will transform Strawberry Hill House into a three-day immersive installation from September 12-14. The artists’ works will respond to the architecture and history of the setting, all while adhering to this year’s theme: The Faery Tale Castle.

At the Strawberry Hill Flower Festival

The Flower Festival has been guest curated by Gaia Elkington of Gaia Eros Florals, alongside festival founder Leigh Chappell. The installations explore “how floristry can move beyond decoration into site-specific storytelling and installation art.” As visitors make their way around Strawberry Hill, they’ll find floral creations depicting “enchanted staircases, goblin markets, and spellbound rooms—each crafted from British-grown blooms using foam-free, sustainable methods”. You’ll also discover the likes of a “witch’s perfumery, flying carpets… and even a giant spider in the gardens.”

But the Flower Festival is more than just a collection of stunning displays; it’s a consciously conscientious and sustainable event. Participating florists are encouraged to create “beauty that leaves no trace”. And at the end of it all, the only waste is that which ends up on the compost heap.

As well as the floral installations, various events will be running throughout the Flower Festival. These include flower workshops and after-hours ‘late’ talks and tours. There’s even a candlelit castle tour, which amps up the gothic flair and ambience of the event.

Find out more about the Strawberry Hill House Flower Festival here.

📍 You’ll find Strawberry Hill House at 268 Waldegrave Road, Twickenham, TW1 4ST. The nearest station is Strawberry Hill.
