The Wroxall Abbey Hotel in Warwickshire has closed for the third time in six years.

The hotel was closed last week after the lease termination ended and the property was taken back, according to BBC reports.

The hotel lease is held by JGBM Hotel Limited. Paresh Thakkar, one of the leaders of the company who took the hotel in 2022, told the BBC that the dismissal was a “whole shock”.

“From a personal perspective, I am very heartbreaking when I invested a considerable amount of time, money and care to ensure the success of the Wroxall Abbey Hotel,” he said.

“I would like to apologize to our guests, our beloved staff, the past and present, and the disadvantages of the local community as a result of dismissal.”

The hotel website now states that it is under construction “and the property received several negative TripAdvisor reviews in January, a cold dining room, a slow service and a ‘undeniable’ wine.

Wroxall Abbey was once a girls’ school and architect Sir Christopher Wren’s mansion before it was restarted as a hotel that earned four AA stars.

The hotel has had a stormy history and its company applied for administrative authorities in 2019 due to financial difficulties. It was reopened in 2021 after the renovation, but was unable to return from the effects of coronal restrictions, which led to another administrative period in 2022.

When Thakkar took the ownership of Wroxall Abbey and reopened it in 2022, Thakar expressed plans for significant investments to the property and promised to return the property’s reputation after its “negative press”.
