The Drumsheds club in north London has been forced to remain open after two drug-related deaths and a stabbing in recent months. A 27-year-old man died in October and a 29-year-old woman died in December in hospital after partying in Tottenham and a man was stabbed in November.
Club organizers met with Enfield Council to discuss their licensing agreement in light of these incidents last week on January 7. They agreed that the club would remain open on “modified terms”, the details of which were kept private.
Cllr Susan Erbil, cabinet member for planning and regulatory services at Enfield Council, said: “Enfield Council’s number one concern remains the safety and well-being of its residents. Today (7 January) the licensing sub-committee heard the statements made to them by the police and representatives on mandated by site management and agreed that the premises licensee would retain their license with amended conditions.
“Council officers and the police will continue to monitor the premises and carry out compliance checks, but it is the responsibility of the premises permit holder to ensure that the conditions are enforced.”
The Drumsheds, a 608,000 square foot venue with a capacity of 15,000, is owned by Broadwick Live. It is based in the former Tottenham IKEA and opened in October 2023. Broadwick Live operated Printworks before it was closed and sold for redevelopment, but also operated Beams and Depot Mayfield in Manchester.
A Drumsheds spokesperson confirmed that Enfield Council had approved the “continuation of operations at full capacity at Drumsheds”.
They added: “Throughout this process we have proactively imposed a number of additional conditions to further reduce risk and support the licensing objectives, and we value the co-operative and positive working relationship we have with Enfield Police, who have never sought to revoke Drumshed’s licence.”
“Over the past few months, Enfield Police and the Safety Advisory Group (SAG) have been working closely with our operations team to strengthen safety and welfare measures at the venue. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to ensuring the wellbeing of our guests and team.
“Drumsheds is proud to be a platform for some of the world’s biggest artists and performers across a variety of genres, and as one of London’s leading large-scale event spaces, we remain committed to delivering exceptional shows and cultural experiences that contribute to the city’s global reputation as a hub for live music and entertainment.
“We are delighted with this result and look forward to continuing to bring world-class talent and unforgettable events to Drumsheds.”
