Here at Secret Londonwe do have a tendency to bang on about how brilliant London is. But we must admit, it feels pretty great when we can kick back and relax whilst other people do the waxing lyrical for us. Enter: Tripadvisor.
Each and every year, the travel guidance site reveals the best and the brightest in the world of global travel in their annual Travellers’ Choice Awards. Today they announced the winners of their Best of the Best Destinations awards, and – you guessed it, folks – London has been awarded a rather shiny medal to proudly hang around its neck.
The Best of the Best Destinations awards span seven different categories this year, including trending, food, culture, honeymoon, solo travel, 25th anniversary, and the overall top. London got a shoutout in a fair few of the categories, but we’re feeling particularly delighted about the fact that our beloved capital city was named the top travel destination in the whole wide world. Not bad at all, hey?
London climbed two places from last year to secure the top spot. And whilst doing so, overtook Dubai – who had managed to hold onto the first place position for the three years previous. The results of the awards are based on Tripadvisor reviews, with one reviewer hailing London as ‘the greatest city on the planet‘. And I solemnly swear that I wasn’t the one who wrote that review.
London’s charm is undeniable, and with the endless things to do, see, eat, drink, and experience; it’s not difficult to see why London nabbed the crown. The city was also recognised for its thriving culinary scene and rich cultural offerings in the awards, coming in second place in the food category and third place in culture.
