Transport for London (TfL) is excited to announce Priority Seating Week, a dedicated initiative aimed at raising awareness about the importance of priority seating across the public transport network.
To engage young Londoners in this vital conversation, TfL is hosting a creative art competition for school children.
A Call for Young Artists to be part of Priority Seating Week 👧👦
Children aged 6 to 14 are encouraged to express their creativity by designing artwork that highlights why it’s essential to offer seats to those in need. The competition is open until 17 November, and the entries will be judged by TfL’s Independent Disability Advisory Group (IDAG).
Prizes 🖼️🎨
Three winners will have their artwork displayed on London’s transport network and receive family tickets to Merlin’s Entertainment* attractions in London. Winners will also be rewarded with family tickets for the IFS Cloud Cable Car.
The Importance of Priority Seating 🚌🤝
Priority seating plays a crucial role in ensuring that individuals who may require additional support, such as people with visible and non-visible disabilities, parents with young children, and older passengers, can travel comfortably. However, recent research has indicated that there is still work to be done in raising awareness about these designated seats.

Through Priority Seating Week, TfL aims to address this gap in awareness and encourage all passengers to be more observant and considerate by offering their seats to those who may need them more.
How to Participate in the Priority Seating Week Competition ✅
Participating in the competition is straightforward. Young artists are invited to:
- Create a piece of artwork that illustrates the significance of offering seats to individuals in need.
- Capture a clear photograph of their artwork.
- Submit the photo along with their name, age, and contact information to [email protected] by 17 November 2024.
The selected winners will have their artwork displayed on the network.
TfL’s Commitment to Accessibility 🚉🚊
TfL is dedicated to making London’s transport system accessible to everyone. Since the introduction of the “Please Offer Me a Seat” badge in 2017, over 140,000 badges have been distributed to those with disabilities and non-visible conditions.
The Equity in Motion plan outlines more than 80 commitments to enhance accessibility, including making more Tube stations step-free and creating additional spaces for wheelchairs on various train lines.
