Filipino-Canadian actress Victoria Sawal had a breakthrough performance in Umbrella Academy Season 4 as Jennifer.
Sawa’s Jennifer came to the final season of the Netflix series about Ben’s past in the original timeline.
It is revealed that a substance called Durango is hidden beneath Jennifer, which could prove catastrophic when it fuses with Ben (who has a marigold in his system).

Guillermo del Toro changed Victoria Sawali’s acting journey
Victoria Sawal made her acting debut in 2013 Pacific Rima film directed by the famous filmmaker Guillermo del Toro.
In the film, he was upgraded from an extra to a speaking role, which led to him taking acting classes to improve his skills.
Sawal, who is originally from the Philippines but holds Canadian citizenship, spoke with Canvas Rebel about his experiences Pacific Rimnoted that one unscripted line changed the trajectory of her career after Del Toro spotted her:
“I couldn’t contain my excitement and ended up blurting out unscripted lines. I was placed next to a cage with a live chicken and told to pretend to sell this chicken to anyone passing by. I took that background. job seriously, some would say TOO seriously, and started shouting lines about the chicken at one point I was yelling “this isn’t KFC!” Next thing I know they were yelling cut and lots of people started circling me taking pictures of my clothes and hair and they were just collecting shots of me in a movie prison or something… A man with thick glasses, wearing all black, walked up to me and asked if I was free later that month because he wanted me to play another role in the movie.”
The 31-year-old actor then shared that his experience in Pacific Rim let him come “hungry with all the acting:”
“Guillermo Del Toro had just plucked me out of 500 extras to get an upgrade for an acting role in Pacific Rim. Everyone was calling me ‘Chicken Girl’ for the rest of filming. That opportunity started it all for me, it was love. In the first installment I had gotten a little taste of movie magic and hungry with all the acting and immediately landed an amazing agent that I still love over 10 years later.
Victoria previously starred in Star Trek: Discovery
Although Pacific Rim was the start of his impressive acting career, Sawal flourished and landed several roles in various projects such as Millions, The rest, Y: The Last Manand The Virgin’s Tale.
Before acting Umbrella Academy Season 4, the actor’s most recent role was Lt. Naya Star Trek: Discovery. He starred in seven episodes of the series’ final season.
In the year Star Trek in the series, Lieutenant Naya is a Starfleet officer on the USS Discovery.
In the same interview with Canvas Rebel, Sawal admitted that he was proud of his role Star Trek: Discovery because his father is a big fan of the franchise:
“My dad is a Trekkie and raised me on the ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ and ‘Star Trek: Voyager’ remakes; so it’s a real honor to be a part of the Star Trek family.”
The 5’4″ actor also teased that there are a few more projects he’s slated to star in later this year:
“I have a few other projects coming up this year, although I can’t say much about it; I can tell you that I’m very excited about what’s to come and even though it’s been over 10 years since my first acting job, I’m still learning and growing and still in love with what I get to do , just goes to show you, making bold choices and enjoying what you do can really catapult you in the right direction.
Victoria is working on an album with her band
In addition to her passion acting, Victoria also pursued music at one point and released several singles along the way. He also makes an album with Sans Serif.
Sawal told Canvas Rebel that his music career includes “premiered at the festival, composed and composed in Toronto.”
The actor accepted singing because it helped him “sharpens (her) ability to use (her) voice to direct and influence the environment:”
“Being a singer helped me sharpen my ability to use my voice to guide and influence an environment, to evoke emotion in an audience. Although I still sing, I chose acting over full-time music to gain momentum. My early experience in TV/Film allowed me to sustain myself constantly in music in when I have free time.

Victoria earned a Best Actress nomination at Days of the Dead Fest
Victoria Sawal recently received a Best Actress nomination for her role in the short film Hopefulwhich was screened at the Days of the Dead Film Festival in 2024.
Hopeful revolves around the story of a bad first date when Mirabel (Sawal) is captured and experimented on by mysterious individuals.
Director Robin Careless expressed his admiration for Sawal on Instagram, noting that it is a “deserved” credit to its main star.
“So proud of (Victoria Sawal) for her nomination for Best Actress at this year’s Days of the Dead Film Festival! Definitely deserved, and thanks to Days of the Dead for recognizing it.”
Days of the Dead is a horror-focused convention featuring independent films and shorts. It will be held in different locations such as Los Angeles, Chicago and Atlanta.
Apart from his brilliant performance HopefulSawal also won the Best Actor award for his role in a short film titled Escape: A Ghost Story at the 2021 Horrorhound Film Festival.
Victoria will next star in the Indie Movie Morningside
Victoria Sawal is set to star in an indie film titled Morning like Jenni.
He is accompanied in the film by Kiana Madeira (Fear Street), Alex Mallari Jr. (The Adam Project) and Brandon McKnight (Flash). For filming Morning started in December 2023.
Morning follows the ups and downs of the diverse characters of Scarborough’s Morningside Community Centre. The film does not have a release date yet.
