Cobra Kai: Tory’s Journey So Far
In summary, Tory Nichols started out as a troubled teenager with anger issues. He started his karate journey at the Cobra Kai Dojo led by John Kreese.
Tory eventually grew closer to Kreese, adopting his merciless teachings, which made him aggressive towards his peers, especially Samantha LaRusso. She also earned the nickname “Queen Cobra”.
Tory was eventually expelled from West Valley High School after badly injuring Sam and inciting a school karate war.
Tory’s persistence and determination led to her important victory in the girls division of the All-Valley Tournament, defeating her rival Samantha LaRusso.
However, his victory in that tournament was a sham, as he later discovered that sensei Terry Silver conspired with the referee to ensure Cobra Kai’s victory.
This revelation was the spark he needed to turn Terry Silver and Cobra Kai, leading to Silver’s eventual defeat at the hands of Daniel LaRusso and the Miyagi-Do Dojo.
Switching sides from Cobra Kai to Miyagi-Do also ignited her romance with Robby while reconciling with Sam.
Cobra Kai Season 6: Tory’s Mom’s Death Explained
Warning – the rest of this recap contains spoilers Cobra Kai Season 6 Episode 1.
all the time Cobra Kaiit has been apparent that Tory’s mother Grace has a serious illness, which in season 6 was revealed to be a serious complication with her kidneys, leaving her bedridden.
Tory, who is known for her stubborn and aggressive nature, has consistently shown that she cares deeply for her mother and the series managed to showcase her soft side in the show.
Cobra Kai Season 6, episode 5 tragically confirmed Grace’s death, which occurred while Tory was preparing for the Sekai Takai tournament.
Tory was supposed to be part of Miyagi-Do’s roster for the Sekai Takai tournament, but she stormed off after hearing of her mother’s death and gave up her spot to Hawk.
While speaking with Tudum, Peyton List reflected on Tory playing the moment she learned of Grace’s death, noting that it was probably her “hardest” scene so far:
“That scene was probably the hardest because it’s such a light-hearted environment on set. So doing it in front of everyone was weird. I didn’t really want to go there in front of everyone. It was so great. It was a challenge to stay in it and keep that energy, and I felt weird when I didn’t joke with everyone all the time.”
Will Tory join Kreese?
Cobra Kai Season 6, Episode 1 provided a shocking twist by revealing that Tory rejoined John Kreese and his newly revived Cobra Kai Dojo as one of its members for the Sekai Takai Tournament.
It seemed like Kreese and Tory’s bond grew even stronger, and Grace’s death was the tipping point for her surprising heel turn.
Sam, Robby, and the rest of Miyagi-Do’s students were stunned to learn of Tory’s late-game decision, shaking things up before the Sekai Takai tournament.
In the same interview with Tudum Cobra Kai co-creator Hayden Schlossberg shared Tory’s decision “was because of what happened to his mother” pointed out that he was only focused on himself:
“I think it’s obviously because of what happened to his mom. It’s one of those moments where he doesn’t necessarily turn bad, but all the progress he’s made is kind of thrown out the window. He’s focused on himself because if he doesn’t go t, he can’t take it, he’s vulnerable and he’s going to be angry.
WHats Next For Tory After Her Betrayal Twist?
Tory’s decision sent shockwaves through Miyagi-Do’s preparation and possible participation in the Sekai Takai tournament.
Not only that, but it also dampens the mindset of certain members, especially Robby and Sam. Robby also has a huge chip on his shoulder as he was named captain of Miyagi-Do’s team.
Part 2 of the topic Cobra KaiThe final season is widely expected to feature either Robby or Sam in an attempt to get Tory to return to Miyagi-Do.
Tanner Buchanan, who plays Robby, told Collider that Tory’s decision had “kind of threw (Robby) out of his career,” admit it “it doesn’t look good on him:”
“Well, that’s the whole thing. I think he’s torn because he doesn’t know which way is the right way at this point. I think he knew in his mind what he thought was the right way, and he had this Agreement Toryn with, “We’re going to make this happen.” Going into it, he doesn’t have that contract anymore, and it’s kind of derailed his career because he’s so emotional, he doesn’t know how to get back into it. We’ll see where he ends up. but it doesn’t look good on him right now.”
Buchanan’s comments suggest that Robby’s vulnerable state could cause problems for Miyagi-Do, as John Kreese and the other members of Cobra Kai could take advantage of it by recruiting him back into their team as well.
Also, the leadership of Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso could be the key to helping Torya get back on the good guys side.
The pair could work together to try and get Tory back, using Kreese’s ruthless past as a way to help the lost student get back on track.
