Thaís begins to complain about Patrick to Carlos, while he stays straight and keeps listening to the father-daughter conversation. Thaís tells his father that Patrick can’t drive and yells at him when he doesn’t stop at a stop sign. In recognition, Patrick angrily tells Thaís that he can drive and that he is “backseat driver.” He says Thai should drive herself if she doesn’t like him driving.
“I just got to Brazil, and your father is already calling me names,” he tells Thaís abruptly.
Patrick didn’t understand why Carlos was calling him a rude name.
However, Thailand is not much help. She can’t tell Patrick why her father abused her on the phone. It looks like Thais may have been talking about Patrick behind his back with his father. He has apparently done nothing to improve the relationship between Patrick and his father. Thaís was at fault for not telling his father that he was going to the United States to get married. He told her that he was going to come back and not stay in America forever. Thais did not visit his family for two years.
Thaís was able to tell his father that Patrick wouldn’t let him see his family, which had led to Carlos having misunderstandings about Patrick. Carlos may never respect Patrick because of how Thaís has presented him to his father. Only a miracle could make her show her son-in-law love. Patrick didn’t even know for the longest time that his father didn’t like him and didn’t want him to marry her.
