Publication date for publication Wonder Woman Monolith Productions’ game may still be years away.
Announced at the Game Awards 2021 with a simple CG trailer, Wonder Woman has long served as a white whale for gamers eager to fulfill their digital fantasies as an iconic DC character.
After the first revelation Shadow of Mordor the studio has remained tight-lipped about the project, more than three years since the project’s last official update, and there is no end in sight.
Wonder Woman is getting a troubling launch update
After years of relative silence, fans may have just received their first release from Monolith Productions’ eponymous label. Wonder Woman video game project.
Speaking of his episode Triple click podcast, insider and Bloomberg writer Jason Schreier shared details about the long-in-development DC Comics game.
During a discussion about the 2024 Game Awards ceremony, a thought Wonder Woman it was presented by Schreier and hosted by Maddy Myers and Kirk Hamilton.
Although Myers joked fans can “never see (the game) again”, Schreier said he spoke with someone who works on the Wonder Woman who said “the current timeline is (the game will be released) in 2026,” but even his sources think “It’s unrealistic:”
Maddy Myers: “Then there are just things that I wonder about myself “Wonder Woman” game, haven’t seen it in a really long time. I feel like every show I’m like, “I wonder if we’re going to see a ‘Wonder Woman’ game? Maybe we’ll never see it again. I think it’s about things that are really exciting.”
Jason Schreier: “When was it announced? Was it announced in 2022? 2021? I talked to someone who worked on the game a while back and they said, ‘Yeah, our current timeline is like 2026, and even that’s unrealistic.'”
Original Wonder Woman the trailer debuted at the Game Awards more than three years ago (live Wonder Woman reveal here), at this point will be revealed as part of the 2021 annual video game ceremony interaction.
These comments from Schreier came just days after he mentioned the game during his appearance Fun games every daywhere he joked that when Wonder Woman it was originally revealed that it was “literally nothing” and hadn’t even properly started development:
“If you look back, one of the biggest announcements a few years ago was ‘Star Wars: Eclipse’ and ‘Wonder Woman.’ When it was announced, it was like literally nothing. There’s been so many times that this hyped teaser trailer has been, and then you won’t see it for a long time.
Wonder Woman has been in the news again lately, apparently for her debut in James Gunn’s new DCU, when the DC hero appeared in a controversial scene in the animation. Creature Commandos series.
When is The Wonder Woman game coming out?
Even though it’s been more than three years Wonder Woman was first revealed to the world, it looks like fans are still years away from the game seeing the light of day.
If, as Schreier suggested, Wonder Woman didn’t go into proper development until the game was first announced in December 2021, when a five-year development time (release in 2026) might make sense.
Monolith Productions has not released the full game since then Middle-earth: Shadow of War in 2017, means over time Wonder Woman comes out, almost a decade has passed since the studio’s last title.
While the wait time for fans is long, the reality is that development times for these triple-A tentpole games keep getting longer. 10 years is definitely on the longer side, but not unheard of (see upcoming release Grand Theft Auto 6).
Although 2026 may be (or once was) an internal goal Wonder Womana release slip to 2027 (or maybe 2028) wouldn’t be at all surprising. What happens over the next 12 months will tell a lot about when fans will see Wonder Woman hit store shelves.
If development has gone well, fans will likely see another look at the game sometime in 2025, acting as a re-launch of the title after years of silence. If the second look comes next year, a 2026 release feels like it could be realistic.
However, if nothing significant is shown in 2025, fans may be concerned about a possible delay after that.
Wonder Woman it does not currently have a listed release date. The next place fans should see the character is in James Gunn’s upcoming DCU series Paradise Lost.
