Act your ageNetflix’s arrival was a rousing success, but is it enough to warrant a season 2?
Act your age was conceived as a series reminiscent of the iconic 1980s sitcom The golden girlsfrom which it borrowed its central premise: Three 50-year-old single women with differing personality types, all living under the same roof.
The Bounce TV series starred Yvette Nicole Brown (of Community and Drake & Josh fame) and Kym Whitley and Trisha Campbell.
Will Act Your Age get a second season?
Act your age It premiered on Bounce TV in 2023, but was recently released as a streaming service on Netflix, where it quickly began to rise as the most popular series in the US.
Series creator Alyson Fouse tweeted in November 2023 that Bounce refused to grant Act your age season 2, but was nonetheless grateful for the fans’ support:
“I am sorry that my show ‘Act Your Age’ will not be returning to Bounce for a second season. However, the first season will be available on Netflix early next year. Thank you to everyone who watched and supported. It meant the world to us.”
Star Yvette Nicole Brown also confirmed the cancellation Act your age On X (formerly Twitter) last fall:
“Unfortunately, it’s true. ‘Act Your Age’ was cancelled.”
As of this writing, the show is still canceled and has yet to be picked up by a streaming service.
This is what Fouse had previously advocated:
“Thanks for the support and we couldn’t agree more. Someone has to give ‘Act Your Age’ a home. Until then, enjoy all 16 episodes on Netflix.”
Brown has also campaigned enthusiastically to catch viewers Act your age in its new home on Netflix, in the hope that a large enough audience will encourage the streaming giant to save the show:
“Please rebroadcast and share with your friends, and please watch next week. And if you don’t have time right now, turn on the show and walk away from the TV.”
Act your age arrived on Netflix on Wednesday, May 22, so it’s likely still too early to tell if the streamer has had to order more episodes. The show’s very strong streaming debut certainly can’t hurt things, but a renewal is far from guaranteed.
Could Netflix Really Save Your Age?
It is quite possible that if Act your age is still doing big on Netflix and is consistently popular, a Season 2 renewal may be in the future.
Netflix has some history of reviving canceled television shows, although that list may not be as long as some might think.
Probably the high-profile Netflix sequel was Arrested Development. The Fox comedy was axed in 2006, and the service brought it back in 2013 with the entire original cast. More episodes were released later in 2018 and 2019.
Netflix also pulled the same trick with the Kiefer Sutherland-led Designated survivorDC series LuciferNBC drama Clear, and a handful of others. This has been enough salvaged programming that Netflix has made its name for shows that have been thrown out of their original homes.
So it certainly makes sense that if Act your age to find a large audience, the world’s best streaming platform could swoop in and free it from its grim fate at the hands of Bounce TV. However, nothing of the sort has been confirmed.
All 16 episodes Act your age now streaming on Netflix.
