Marvel’s Rivals released a sneak peek at Invisible Woman’s latest cosmetic skin based on Susan Storm’s twisted persona: Malice.
Cosmetic skins are the bread and butter of hero shooters Marvel’s Rivalswhich already included 12 MCU-inspired skins at launch. Considering the costumes these superhero characters have worn over the decades, developer NetEase Games has no shortage of inspiration.
The Fantastic Four are the latest characters to join, starting with Mr. About Fantastic and his wife, the Invisible Woman, and his various abilities and powers.
Marvel Rivals introduces a new Invisible Woman skin
Before the release of Season 1 Marvel’s Rivals On Friday, January 10, two skins were revealed for Mr. For Fantastic and Invisible Woman, inspired by Reed’s villainous counterpart to The Marker and Sue’s darker influence as Malice personified.
Streamers are promoting the upcoming season 1 release Marvel’s Rivals have already revealed that this Invisible Woman skin will cost 2,200 units and will presumably sell for a limited time of 1,600 units at launch. However, this skin is not included in the Season 1 Battle Pass.
Reactions on social media were expected with such a lovely new skin. Most fans were excited about its inclusion and expressed their excitement on X (formerly Twitter).
Streamer Jeremy Wang, better known as @DisguisedToast, declared it an instant buy for him:
“Jarvis, get the credit card.”
Youtuber @b0gur commented on it Marvel’s Rivals does “so much money“ with this kind of skin:
“They make so much money.”
Another X user, Ivan Jr (@Kryptomightguy) showed how Marvel’s Rivals made it possible for the players “Combine the evil version of Marvel’s second biggest couple” including mr. Fantastic’s The Maker skin:
“Then they gave Sue her ‘Malice’ skin just so you can combine the evil version of Marvel’s second biggest couple, it’s amazing…”
Other users accused this skin of being just flashy and shallow “bait”, which is hard to argue with based on its design. But given its origins in comics, it was inevitable.
Who is Malice? Susan Storm’s Reverse Personality Explained
Created by writer and artist John Byrne, Malice debuted in Fantastic Four #280 as supervillain Psycho-Man’s display of Susan Storm’s reversed emotions. Her influence would have long-lasting consequences for the Fantastic Four matriarch and additional baggage for this new one Marvel’s Rivals skin.
After a tragic miscarriage during her second pregnancy, the supervillain Psycho-Man took advantage of Susan’s vulnerable state of mind. Using his Hate-Monger android, he turned her feelings for Reed and his family from love to murderous hatred.
Fortunately, Reed turns Susan back to normal through unorthodox means, causing her to hate him. By infusing Malice with misogyny and abuse, which Susan hates, she turns Malice’s hatred back into love.
Unfortunately, Psycho-Man left his mark on Sue, which he equated to physical abuse and how he “took hold of (his) heart” and “turned it, turned it inside out:”
“He reached deep inside me! He grabbed my heart, Reed. And he turned it, turned it inside out!”
This is one big reason why Malice as a skin is viewed with suspicion by a smaller number of Invisible Woman’s more knowledgeable fans who know the larger context of Malice, especially when it’s only described as a sexy cosmetic skin.
However, this discussion will likely come up again when Jean Grey, one of the 12, leaks Marvel’s Rivals characters, eventually joins the hero shooter with a skin based on his equally revealing Hellfire outfits as he is mentally manipulated by villains like Susan.
Invisible Woman, alongside her Malice skin, is available Marvel’s Rivals on Friday, January 10 at 4 ET / 1 PT.
