The first trailer for what’s to come Borderlands Lionsgate’s film adaptation of the incredibly popular game series has arrived, giving fans their first real look at Cate Blanchett’s Lilith — but with some differences.

Cat Blanchett’s Lilith In Borderlands vs. The Game Version
The Lilith in Borderlands movie is much older
A key difference that many fans will notice right away is Lilith’s age in the movie compared to the original games.
Cate Blanchett, the actress who plays Lilith in the new film, is 54 years old. The events of the first Borderlands game, Lilith is only 22 years old.
Needless to say, that’s a pretty big difference.
While Cate Blanchett is a great actress, it’s hard to see why the creative team couldn’t have cast someone else a little closer to the right age group.

Another difference between the two versions of Lilith is her outfit.
The movie doesn’t match her game outfits at all. In fact, her shiny, midnight-colored vest is quite unique in itself.
There’s no real downside to this film adaptation, as Lilith is given her own outfit – especially since the character’s Dressing Style remains faithful.
After all, the original game also had plenty of alternate costumes for the character when he was playable.
Is Lilith even a siren?

In the year Borderlands in the world, Lilith is a siren.
Sirens are people with extraordinary, special superpowers, and only seven can exist at the same time.
The actual abilities of those with this title can vary wildly from phasing force fields to aging powers and more.
These special individuals are also marked by unique, elaborate tattoos that run across their bodies.
Although there’s only been one pull from the trailer, fans have already noticed that there aren’t many signs that the film will retain the Siren element of the character. There is not even a hint of his blue tattoos.
It’s still too early to judge, but ignoring this element of Lilith certainly won’t sit well with fans if that’s the team’s direction.
Eli Roth’s Borderlands has many changes
Oddly enough, Lilith isn’t the only character in the film to face some of the above changes.
Like Lilith, Tannis, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, is much older than their original counterpart. While the age difference isn’t as bad for Kevin Hart’s Roland, the actor isn’t necessarily the person you’d first think of to bring the character to life.
Despite some incompatible elements, the film seems to have retained much of the spirit of the original games. And while some fans might not like the cast, there’s no doubt that all of the actors involved are extremely talented — so there’s every chance the movie could still be a hit.
However, fans should keep their expectations in check, especially when it comes to its similarity to the stories of the games.
The first trailer confirms that instead of adapting a single plot thread, it’s picking up elements from the entire franchise (like how the main character team is wildly different than any installment).
I hope the movie does well because maybe then the series can bring back fan favorite villain Handsome Jack Borderlands 2 for live action.
Borderlands will be published on the 9 August.
