With GTA 6 officially revealed, now games can shift their focus to when the open-world epic is released.
After years of stealth, famed developer Rockstar Games has finally pulled back the curtain on the sixth mainline entry to its acclaimed sandbox franchise known as Grand Theft Auto.
After months of speculation, the debut trailer revealed the series’ new protagonist, a return to the beloved Vice City region, and stunning next-gen graphics never before seen in the series.
But one thing that was missing was an exact release date.
When is GTA 6 coming out?
Along with a new trailer GTA 6 came dim Year of publication 2025.
While no exact day or month was given for the game’s 2025 release window, there are a few clues as to when players can expect GTA 6 on store shelves.
GTA Publisher Take-Two Interactive previously hinted at the highly anticipated title coming sometime in the 2025 fiscal year.
Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick teased it in a 2023 quarterly earnings press release “Fiscal 2025” would serve as a turning point for the company. He borrowed “several groundbreaking titles” market entry, which would result “over $1 billion in adjusted unrestricted operating cash flow,” which likely includes GTA 6:
“Looking ahead, Fiscal 2025 is a highly anticipated year for our company… For the past several years, we have been preparing our business to release an incredibly robust pipeline of projects that we believe will take our company to even greater heights of success. In 2025, we expect to enter this new era by launching several ground-breaking titles that we believe will set new standards for our industry and giving us more than $8 billion in net reserves and more than $1 billion in adjusted unrestricted cash flow from operations. expects to maintain this momentum by delivering even better operating results in 2026 and beyond.”
That would mean GTA 6 likely to be released sometime in the first quarter of 2025, before the end of Take-Two’s 2025 fiscal year (which runs from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025).
The gaming giant already confirmed – thanks to the press release written as part of it GTA 6trailer debut – that this 2025 release will only be for the console version of the game.
Take-Two listed “PlayStation 5 PC Entertainment Systems and Xbox Series X|S Games and Entertainment Systems” as the only release platform available, meaning PC gamers will have to wait until a later date for the upcoming game.
GTA’s release date is controversial
Although it is exciting GTA 6 The game’s release date of 2025 has left some gamers unimpressed as they have finally been introduced in an official capacity (after extensive leaks and plenty of misinformation).
By that time GTA 6 was revealed, it had already been more than a decade since the last main theme of the series hit store shelves. It means that if GTA 6 stays in this 2025 release window, making it nearly 12 years, making it the longest gap Grand Theft Auto headlines by a landslide.
Many had assumed – considering the long development time between GTA 5 and 6 – The year 2024 would be a year GTA 6. That’s why it was so shocking to many that the title announcement had the date 2025.
Within minutes of the trailer’s debut, fans who watched it expressed their high hopes for a 2025 release window.
Players like Govermental53 on Reddit immediately logged over the next twelve months “F*** 2024 I WANT TO LIVE IN 2025!”
Others (eg Out of context People X) asked Rockstar what they have been up to “10+ years:”
“Hurry up, you’ve been doing this for over 10 years.”
This anger may have been exacerbated by the fact that so many gamers had also been waiting for the title to come to PC one day and meet its console counterparts.
Despite the fact that Rockstar has traditionally separated console and PC releases of its titles, many assumed that the developer would choose to release everything simultaneously this time around, as many gaming giants have done over the past few years.
So for those who were waiting for a PC release, this 2025 date will probably mean mid to late 2026 for their version of the game, as Rockstar usually takes 12-16 months to port their titles to the PC platform.
GTA 6 is currently slated for release sometime in 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
