Dylan joined the St. David Crew late and filled the void
He joined the crew in the middle of the season
After shooting Jared Below decks in season 11, captain Kerry had some difficult decisions to make regarding the composition of his outfield team. First, he decided to promote Ben from Lead Deckhand to Bosun. After watching Ben throughout the early parts of the charter season, Captain Kerry realized that Ben could handle the pressures of being a Bosun. Captain Kerry understood the more mechanical aspects of the ship and knew how to steer it properly, so he felt comfortable with Ben taking over. He knew it though he needed another deckhand if he promoted Ben within the crew.
Captain Kerry brought Dylan, who has years of superyacht experience and seemed to fit in well with the rest of the crew. Dylan said that while he may not have had as much experience with superyachts as others, he knew what he was doing well.I wasn’t shy about talking. Dylan quickly won over the rest of the St. David’s crew, sharing his knowledge and making fun of himself with his quirky behavior as he got to know everyone a little more. Dylan clearly understood the hierarchy of St. David’s and his place in it.
Ben’s time as Bosun made him Dylan’s boss
He was still transitioning to being a manager
Although it might not seem like it at first, Ben was promoted to Bosun of St. David’s, making him the leader of the outdoor team. In the same way that Fraser Olender leads the internal team as Chief Stew, Ben is the external team leader who takes charge and helps them delegate all the tasks they need to complete during the charter. On becoming a Bosun, Ben would be responsible for naming the next principal at St. David’s. He was happy to do so, as he had been thrilled to be given the honor of being the leader before.
Ben and Sunny’s relationship complicated his decision to be Lead Deckhand
Their ship journey has had its ups and downs
all the time Below decks season 11, Ben and Sunny have developed a connection that has taken them from flirty friends to full-on boating. The pair met at the beginning of the charter season and first got to know each other as colleagues on the outdoor team. Quickly realizing their attraction to each other, Ben felt he had no interest in moving to another boat after his experience with Camille Lamb. Below decks season 10 went horribly wrong. Still, he couldn’t fight the relationship he had with Sunny, and he was also openly attracted to her.
Ben and Sunny quickly went from just friends to something more by meeting at one of the first crew nights Below decks season 11. The couple liked to keep things casual, working together and sleeping together, checking in with each other whenever they could. While there have been moments of confusion between the two about what they are or whether they have some kind of label, they’ve mostly been on the same page throughout the charter season. Ben and Sunny seem to understand each other easilyand their relationship has been nice to watch.
Dylan felt he had earned the leading deckhand position
He wasn’t happy about being snubbed
When it became clear to Dylan that he was on the outside team with Kyle Stillie and the boatman, he realized that things might not be as easy for promotion, especially with Ben making the decisions with Captain Kerry. While Ben and the captain discussed his options for who would be the next lead before making a decision, Dylan continued to bemoan the thought of not being given the opportunity to take charge. He felt that Ben made his choice in his relationship with Sunnynor his skills on board.
After Dylan & Ben Ironed Things Out, Dylan made a pass at Sunny
He took him down quickly
After Ben had given the lead to Sunny, Dylan’s complaints returned to both Bosun and his lead, irritating both. Sunny felt Dylan was undermining her skills, while Ben felt Dylan was undermining his leadership. Dylan decided to apologize to Sunny, telling her that she wasn’t out on him, but was instead criticizing Ben. Sunny, though irritated, accepted his explanation. However, things took a turn for the worse when Dylan asked if she was taken, knowing that there was a casual relationship between her and Ben. When he said he was, Dylan made a pass to Sunny, which she immediately rejected.
Is Dylan jealous of Ben’s role in St. David’s?
He may not understand his position
While Ben’s decision may have been skewed by his favoritism towards Sunny, his decision was not wrong, and it appears that Dylan may simply be jealous of his role in St. in David. Unfortunately for Dylan, his time on the superyacht has been shorter than the rest of the crew, and it’s likely that his time on board has not been long enough for him to be considered for a leadership position. Dylan’s obvious attraction to Sunny and his desire to get a promotion he has yet to earn proves that he is jealous / Below decksis Bosun Ben.
