The 12-week public consultation that opened on Friday 28 November 2025 has closed.
The UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC) has received hundreds of responses to the public consultation on screening for prostate cancer, which has now closed.
Consultation comments are no longer being accepted. However, the evidence review documents can still be viewed via this UK NSC Blog article that was published when the consultation opened.
Responses submitted will be analysed and considered by the UK NSC at its March meeting. Subject to the consultation feedback, the committee will make a final recommendation on screening for prostate cancer to ministers who will decide on next steps.
People were asked to provide feedback on a 2025 modelling study and its conclusions. The study, commissioned by the UK NSC and undertaken by the Sheffield School for Health and Related Research (SCHARR), examined the impact of screening for prostate cancer on:
- all men in the UK
- Black men
- men with a known BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene variant
- men with a relevant family history of cancer
Many of the responses received came from members of the public, sharing their experience of a prostate cancer diagnosis – either their own story, or that of a loved one. Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond to the consultation.
